UPS DELIVERY WARNING

   / UPS DELIVERY WARNING #11
I was under the impression that UPS doesn't use independents for delivery, though they sometimes do for trucking.

-

I had similar happen with a Home Depot order delivery, but it was OnTrac parcel delivery. I got a text that a delivery was made at 830PM, when out to the gate (where UPS leaves things) and
... nada. No package. Called the next day and they insisted they'd delivered.

My guess is that my address being about an hour and a half from their depot, the delivery person decided not to bother coming up into the woods and just marked it delivered.

HD wasn't a lot of help, either. They said to contest the charge with my credit card company, and they'd give me 10% off if I ordered it again. I decided to chance it, reordered, and it came this time (not at 830pm either, but mid day), and HD did credit my cc with 10%.

I don't know yet the status of my credit card dispute, but I do have a transcript of the chat session with HD showing they told me to dispute the charge, we'll see.

UPS now doing radio ads in MY area for drivers needed, you can use your own car
I suspect UPS can no longer keep up with all the others doing the private subcontractor delivery nonsense.
I too no longer trust ANY of the mail delivery systems, especially USPS.

Companies get into computerized inventory management and delivery because it'll save $. Then they "downsize" support staff. A double whammy recipe for disaster.

All of the major private carries are using the US Post Office for the final rural delivery in some areas for items of specific size. This adds another layer and potential issues to the delivery. Our local rural carriers do not like driving up lanes and getting out of vehicles. Common to find packages hanging on mailbox free picking to anyone driving by.

Seems like (at one time at least) UPS was with the Teamsters Union. A rag-tag crew of drivers would be an odd arrangement.

I've had different questionable scenarios in the past. Stuff like saying it was not deliverable or customer not home when the delivery didn't require me to be at home.

For some reason UPS quit sending me email notifications about 6 months ago. When I log into my account the only contact option is to allow their advertising partners to email me. I even tried turning that on and still no notifications. Packages just show up at the gate when they show up these days.

Years ago I put my gate code in with my address but later decided that was a bad idea so I removed it. Every once in a while I hear a knock on the door and see the UPS truck driving out. Kinda freaks me out they still have it floating in the system years after I took it out. If it happened often enough I would change the code but then I would have to update with the fire department and utility company. Funny thing is I have given it to the utility co-op several times and every time they enter my property they climb over the gates. Every time I ask they don't have it on my account. I guess that's another topic.

USPS has gone off the chart with stupid mistakes. I was bragging on my service just a few months back and since then I have had stuff arrive then get sent to another city then back to me. I had one package I mailed for a return and they sent it back to ME but the carrier saw my address was the return address and rerouted it to the ship to that was front and center on the label.

I'm gonna jinx it now but Fedex has been the most reliable and sends tracking info emails every step of the way.

During the holiday season they all get absolutely slammed and (from my understanding) will coordinate with each other to do the best they can to get packages to where they need to go. Though this year will probably be the worst ever do to increases in volume of shipping due to COVID.

...but I agree with the sentiment of not trusting any of them fully (though UPS has been the most problem free for me). One of the more interesting ones was when FedeX(?) failed to deliver a package claiming the address was "incorrect", and then required the seller (which was Walmart) to confirm that the original address was correct. Wasn't quite as bad as you'd imagine trying to get one customer service department to contact another to straighten things out.

Really, the only hard part was trying to get around Walmart's automated customer service over the phone (hooray for just banging on the "0" and repeating the word "operator"). Once I was actually able to talk to a human, and explain that the shipper wanted verification that the original address was the correct address from the seller it went pretty smooth... at which point I also found out that the shipper had apparently already cleared the exception and marked the package for re-delivery after I'd called them directly.

Doesn't quite happen enough that I have the customer service department for the various parcel shippers on speed dial, but often enough it probably wouldn't be a bad idea ..... though I've had a lot fewer issues since I've been working from home full-time. I'm guessing the drivers caught on and don't want to take and increased risk getting busted for falsely prematurely marking something delivered or marking it undeliverable (have had more than a few instances of both over the last few years).

My daughter ordered some books to be delivered by USPS this summer. She finds a note in her mail box, Item not able to be delivered because of large spider web on front porch. There was a spider web on her front porch and the mail lady would have had to walk beside it but no where close to it. I realize that spiders may not fall under "snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds".

USPS won't even come up the driveway in my area. If it doesn't fit in the mailbox they leave a slip to come pick it up at the post office. UPS, FedEx and Amazon I have had no trouble with.

My USPS guy drives up if the item does not fit in the mailbox. He is great.
UPS is normally the same 2 people, they leave on the front porch.
FEdex - will leave it randomly based on , I guess, phase of the moon.
My house is 600 feet from the main road.
has been left in a drainage ditch by the road. end of driveway by road, by garbage cans by road. by garage, by front door etc.
System always says delivered to front porch. :confused2:
