Upper vs lower connection for lower link bars

On my Ford Model 1920 tractor, I see that there are 2 options for bolting the pin plates to the tractor body to which the lower link arms are attached. Does anyone know the advantages of using the upper vs. lower positions for different types of 3 pt hitch attachments?
