I was wondering if there are any good options to upgrade the stock 40amp alternator on an x749 to something a little more beefy. An alternative would be wiring in a second battery for auxiallary but I don't know if anyone has done this yet. I'd like to be able to wire up a few added accessories and do not want to max out the current configuration. Any thoughts would be great!

Try looking for a manufacture part number on it. I've found alot of these are automotive alternators and there be more sizes available. A good alternator shop can tell you or internet search will turn up different applications. Sometime a good shop can rework them for more output.

A 40a alternator should power anything you want to add...

What are you trying to add that would cause the need for more power?

A microwave for hot cocoa.... :)

Seriously, I'm outfitting with aux. lights as well as a few other gadgets that I will take pictures of once I'm done fabricating. I'm going to pull the model numbers and see if I can find them with Delco or whoever makes the alternator. Thanks all.

Each 50 watt light draws less than 4 amps, your headlights are probably only 35 watts...I just don't see what you could add to tax a 40 amp alternator.

I have 4 50w lights mounted to my ROPS, plus a strobe and various other electrical goodies with only a 20 amp alternator, never a problem yet in 5 years or so.

40 amp alternators are usually enough power for a ton of items. Will a Delco remy fit it?..Plenty of them around...

I know 40a is a pretty good size for most stuff. I'll let you know on the Delco after I check the part #.
