I am located outside of Atlanta and work with the youth at my church. We kick off and end the school year with what we call Mud n' Crud Wars to invite everyone to get all crazy and dirty then have the local fire department hose them off.

I have a mud "pit" that I created several years ago with our Kubota L4310 and a tiller attachment. It took me a while but I created a 40' x 30' pit that was about 6" deep due to the tiller limitations. It was OK for mud but I need to go deeper at least 12" to make it real goopy and thick where it is hard to move around.

Last year I had access to a skid steer and was able to plunge the bucket strait down then pop up the soil. This worked out ok but the moons were aligned to have that machine there.

What would be a better alternative to go deep and cheap using the church tractor? I was looking around and a subsoiler may be good? It will take a lot of back and forth but I could concentrate the force deeper. We are moving the youth meeting location on the property and this will give me the opportunity to create a new pit that will be bigger so I want to get it right. I would like to go 50' x 50' on the new pit.

If you have a FEL or boxblade, you can move the tilled dirt out of the way and till another 6 inches then move it back. If you work in strips you should be able to keep it all fairly fluffy till you water it down.

Do you have FEL on your tractor? Till it then push the tilled dirt aside and till it deeper. Push the dirt back etc. Make it in sections. Or give the young people shovels and make them dig it. That would be good work out. It will take for a while but they would do it.

I have access to one. Dred changing between implements but may have to. I guess I could use rippers on the blade to chew up the ground.
