Here's a trenching tool I made for my buried dog fence this weekend. It took me about 2 hrs. to build it, but it saved me a heck of a lot of money and work. I buried about 2 1/2 acres in a little under an hr. I decided to mount it on the side so that I could stay closer to our regular fence. The mark it left in the lawn is only about 2 inches wide.

Still another one. The wings on it are to prevent it from going to deep. The only improvement I would make is to use a depth wheel instead of the wings.

And last but not least. When your all done you just swing it out of the way and run back over the trench with the wire in it. It closes up nice as can be!!

Nice job Ray. I’m planning on doing the same thing. Great idea to use the box blade. Did the wire have a tendency to be pulled rather than lay down for you?

I never had a problem with it. It stayed in the bottom of the trench and came off the spool very easily. I layed the cable at about 2 miles an hr. for most of it.

Ray, very good idea using the box blade for weight.

Did you have any problems with the box blade wanting to drag the ground, or were the wings strong enough to keep the box blade from hitting the ground?

Thanks for the pictures.

I want to do the same, How well do the fences work? I understand there is a training period - how difficult?? (Our dog isn't the sharpest tool in the shed - for that matter, neither is his owner)
