That's interesting, and I don't doubt it for a minute. Years ago during my college years, I studied Anthropology. I remember very vividly, the professor telling us that when they began putting in telephone and telegraph lines in Australia, they had a big problem with the Aboriginals. Seems they would scale the poles and remove the glass insulators. They found out later, that they were making tools out of them, i.e. knives, scrapers and cutting instruments...glass, of course is great material for that. They solved the problem by placing all their broken insulators around the base of the poles where they were readily available.

They at least didn't chop down the poles.
