Don't have time to waste thinking about this.
I have work to do...I'm a farmer ! :censored:

Ever hear of the prime directive? "They" have been here for a very long time and if they had wanted to do us harm we'd be toast by now. Seems "they" may have given us religion. What has the human race been fighting over ever since?

Yep, sure have. I have watched ever episode of TOS, TNG, DS9, Enterprise, and yes even Voyager.

Sure, we can have faith that we will move beyond these limitations, just like the people who used to ride horses to get places did. However, I think we are at about the maximum level that we can get when it comes to these very serious limitations.

And I do not. We ain't seen nothing yet... :)

Speed of light will be considered "snail's pace" in the future.

I hope you are right Richard.

First we have to envision a thing. In other words, "just think it up". Then work out the science to potentially make it feasible, then work towards implementation, Then deploy it, than bug test it and improve it. Lots of steps, but when Otto, made his first gasoline engine, it was a lot of steps to get that far, and now we get in our cars and trucks and zoom down the road, and we don't even think about what we are doing, and all the work it took to get there.. Nope, we are heading to the 7-11 to buy some suds!:drink: That is as far as a lot of people think.

Fast radio bursts from 5.5 billion light years away.

Extremely short, sharp flash of radio waves from unknown source in the universe, caught as it was happening -- ScienceDaily
A strange phenomenon has been observed by astronomers right as it was happening -- a 'fast radio burst'. The eruption is described as an extremely short, sharp flash of radio waves from an unknown source in the universe.

"The theories are now that the radio wave burst might be linked to a very compact type of object -- such as neutron stars or black holes and the bursts could be connected to collisions or 'star quakes'. Now we know more about what we should be looking for," says Daniele Malesani.

OR, :) it could be intelligent life probing the universe. James, turn off that HAM set, you will give us away.

EDIT: I had another thought. The burst could be a homing signal and if it is coming to us, we are on the path to home.:eek:

Yes, but this is surely natural radio noise, of course they did not mention what frequency's, but I got the impression this was at least microwave radiation or even x ray emissions.. Jupiter emits a lot of 21 to 22 MHz radio signals at times, and other space bodies have been found to emit natural radio signals.. Now if someone found a signal with some type of modulation on it, NOW that would be of critical interest. 21Mhz is in the 15 meter amateur radio band, and is covered by simple receivers. No big dishes or microwave gear needed. They say "no one can hear you scream in space".. But that is not entirely true.. You CAN scream over a radio, and be heard.

I dunno. It could be an alien COMSEC technique. How better to disguise your radio presence than to blend in? It could be light spectrum or light amplitude modulated and we don't have the right receiver hardware to know that.

Since you so blithely offer plausible explanations, and you yourself admittedly operate a radio; hmmm I'm calling NASA and the Feebs.

Ya know, a real American would know a Feeb is an FBI agent. I'd be running for the hills if I were you. I'm calling the NSA too.

Allrighty, then.. I will be on the lookout for all scurrilous knaves Federal then.

The Prime Directive would prohibit giving us religion . No interference or influence of a culture 's development .

I think he means they are the Gods who (bred with the monkeys and) created man. (Evolution vs. creationism is a false argument, it's both! See Genesis 6.4: "Where's all the earth party girls at?) The interbreeding gave us bigger brains (i.e. we ate from the tree of knowledge, fell from the grace that other earth creatures live in). That's why the stories say they lived 600 years, or why Cain was able to marry other people who were already here.
Over thousands of generations the stories of our Father from the Heavens got modified and became our "religions". I don't believe 9Fingers was saying they gave us their religion. If you look at those stories and imagine that an extraterrestrial being with advanced technology would be perceived as a God to primitive people, they make a lot more sense, and are certainly a lot more rational/realistic explanation than magic.
(Disclosure: This is crazy talk, I know. But is it any crazier than religion?)

Correct but the Vorlons and Shadows did not follow the Prime Directive. Just the opposite...

In considering UFO's there is a danger of anthropocentric influences. One of those is the assumption that aliens need some sort of spacecraft--because we would.

That isn't necessarily so. There are lifeforms on earth that defy rational expectations, such as the bacteria living under two miles of million year-old ice in Antarctica. Various movies aside, we don't know that there aren't creatures able to exist in space without the protection of a ship or craft, or perhaps evolved to live in space.

Billions of cocoons of alien cyborgs drifting through the universe like cottonwood seeds in a state of suspended animation could go many places. Some are captured by the gravity of planets suitable for their next stage of metamorphosis, some not.

New Type of Bacteria Found in Buried Antarctic Lake

A new type of microbe has been found at a lake buried under Antarctica's thick ice, according to news reports. The find may unveil clues of the surrounding environment in the lake, according to scientists.

The bacteria, said to be only 86 percent similar to other types known to exist on Earth, was discovered in a water sample taken from Lake Vostok, which sits under more than 2 miles (3 kilometers) of Antarctic ice. The freshwater lakehas likely been buried, unaltered, under the ice for the past million years.

Interesting. My question would be what kind of environment would have spawned a life form that depended on suspended animation and dispersion throughout the universe for survival? Seems highly unlikely to me.
