Oil & Fuel UDT vs. other brands

Does anyone know of a good fluid to use instead of kubota's UDT. Would like to save money if possible.

I'm as cheap or cheaper than the next man but I won't use any hydraulic fluid other than Kubota to save a dollar and sixty seven cents or whatever. I use SUDT in HSTs but I might if I was using UDT in a geared tractor.

I agree with you john, just not worth it imo.

The dealers around here don't even use UDT. Its just universal tractor fluid, get a name brand oil if that makes you feel better. Shell, Gulf, Travelers, Mystic, take your pick. The important thing is you change it occasionally.

Some get a warm and fuzzy feeling from using Kubota fluids and filters. It won't harm anything to use Shell or whatever oil and a WIX filter either.

If you have a GST or HST SUDT does make a difference and many HST charge pump filters do not have a real good cross.

I did a change using Tractor Supply hydro, which met the stated criteria of UDT. It worked fine, no foaming or other problems, but there *was* a more noticeable whine under working pressure.

I switched back to SUDT for my next change, and it's much quieter. I'm sensing a lack of power as it gets hot working though. I have enough for another change of SUDT, and may do that to more fully purge the residual TSC fluid.

I understand the valves and hose diameters are smaller on the BX series, so it may be more noticeable for my BX24 than your tractor. There are dozens and dozens of threads on this very topic, but I find it hard to get a clean search for specific issues, questions, or topics. Try a variety of single key words, and perhaps you will find some of the longer or better discussions on this.
