I know this subject has discussed extensively.-I just don't where to find.

Coming up on my 50 hour (Kubota L3400)

They say I can use gear oil or udt-or even super udt in the front end.

Any advice here?

Also-what is the real difference between udt and super udt??

Need to change oil soon-what do you think??

Good Luck

Search the Kubota owning/ operating forum. You can use keyword sudt to search the forum and it will return plenty of hits.

Change the fluid and filter at 50 hours remove and clean the metal filter screen. It is detailed in the manual, and you can also find plenty of info on the kubots forum.

UDT is a straight weight, while SUDT is a multi weight fluid. The BX comes from factory with udt in the front axle. If you live in a cold area I would use SUDT in both the hydro and the front axle. If it is really hot where you live, I would probably use the gear oil in the front axle

I am using super udt in my L3130HST for hydro/trans and front axle. Have only SUDT and engine oil to stock. The SUDT sure quietened down the hydrostatic whine by the way if that is what you have.

i recently got it straight from a kubota factory service person.
change at 50 hours. in hot climates use gear oil. he said is was even more important if you had a fel.
my axle had udt in it. it looked very clean. when i drained it the fluid in the lower portion of the axles was not nearly as clean as the stuff in the top. this was at 50 hours.
i will be changing the engine oil/filter, fuel filter, air filter and axle fluid every 50 hours.

Oh yea i use straight up gear oil in my front end and use UDT. Also doesn't get much colder than 10 in the winter here.

Where are you located Brande?

Super UDT?

Doesn't the S stand for synthetic? not super

SUDT-Synthetic UDT

Nope- there has been discussion on this point before- it's not synthetic. Blended for better application in colder climate- yes.

I only have 12 hours on my new L3130, but I was thinking on ordering the SUDT early to get ready for the 50 hr service. When I mentioned this to the mechanic and sales person at my local Kubota dealership, they told me not to change the transmission fluid at 50 hrs, just the filters. He said they don't change the transmission oil when they do the 50 hr service. Has anyone else heard of this?

The book says 50 on the trans + filters, at least every one of my past 7 Kubota's said that including my M9 and the 105.

That said, I use 85-140 GL5 hypoid oil in my front drives in the summer and SUDT in the winter. UDT and SUDT being multi purpose hydraulic and final drive lubricants will serve as gear oil but don't carry the GL4-5 rating of true hypoid oil. I use my tractors in an agricultural setting where shock loads are high and continuous duty is the norm so SUDT or UDT would probably be fine for the occasional user. The book states either UDT or SUDT or hypoid oil.

The actual difference between SUDT and UDT is that SUDT is blended with additives that allow it to flow better at low temperatures and not starve components due to elevated viscosity. Of course those additives cost more, hence the elevated price. In retrospect though, what is an oil change in comparison to the cost of the tractor itself. In my case it's inconsequential:)
