400 hr. Hydro Oil Change Advice???

I have 4701 HST changed filters at 50hrs and fluid at 400hrs does seem little excessive with full synthetic fluid.I ran heavy equipment some intervals on hydraulic fluid went to 4K hrs JD 160G excavator one example.I don’t understand how motor oil is 400hrs same as hydraulic fluid one would think hydraulic would be much longer change intervals.As a home owner and small property 18.5 acres takes me awhile to put on 400 hrs but a landscapers and full time farmers 400 hrs would come quick and as you stated very expensive service.I do motor oil at 250 hrs and will do hydraulic at 800hrs but after this change may lengthen change interval?? You would think Kubota would figure out how to increase these intervals?? If your still under warranty and it’s your first change I would do it at 400 hrs after that I would use your own judgment oil still cheaper than transmissions.

One thing I am not seeing here is the use of filter carts which is basically 2 filters mounted on a cart with a oil pump attached. The purpose is to cycle your oil through the cart, with two filters you are cleaning your oil, the heavy contaminants anyways. You can use different micron rated filters if you want to really clean the oil. This is done on power train oil in large mining trucks to cut down on costs.
Also if you are suspicious of your system, cut open the system filter when it’s removed before doing any changes. If you see large amounts of metal in the filter pleats then you will need to investigate further.
No sense in changing oil and filters if you have an impending failure.
Checking the filter is always a great idea before dumping clean oil and filters into any system that you are unsure of the condition.
They also make filter cutters that make this job very easy.
If your buying a used unit this process will help you evaluate the used vehicle.
I worked for the worlds biggest Caterpillar dealer and this is standard practice, with a try for sure.

The dealership said there’s no need. Just drop the hydraulic filter and replace any lost oil (which was about a gallon). Granted this is not a hydrostatic so not exactly applicable to your situation.

If it's the first change, then do it. If changed in the past, and you're SURE it's never been overheated, or had water intrusion, then you could probably get by with filters and a top off of fluid. It's your tractor, whatever YOU feel comfortable with.

To stop waste fluid on filter change use a shop vacuum in the fluid fill to get a vacuum on the system there will still be a little loss but nothing like not using the shop vacuum
