U1 Replacement Battery

I have a Scag Turf Tiger diesel that I bought used about 7 years ago and its battery finally died but I can’t seem to find a replacement. It’s a Remy battery with the round top post which apparently isn’t available anymore. Any ideas? It’s a tight fit already so it doesn’t appear that a car battery would fit.

Take the old battery to Auto Zone. They should be able to measure and find a suitable replacement.

It’s hard to tell by looking but it doesn’t appear to be a unique size. I’d think an auto parts store could find a match.

It’s a U1 size but finding the round post is the problem

That looks like a group 24 or 35 battery.

None of those appear to be round post batteries.

My Bad Boy uses a U1 battery but it has the bolt lug posts. There must be an indicator for the round post style. It's not U1R as the "R" designates the positive post position as being on the right side. I found a U1 battery with round posts but it looks like a special use battery. And it's over $250!!!

That's what I'll have to do if I can"t find a car battery to fit.

That looks like a group 51, about the same as a U1 only slightly longer by an inch or so.

Do a search for automotive battery size chart or dimension chart. Then measure your battery to see what size it is.

The BCI chart is my go-to resource when dealing with oddball applications, or when the battery type is not known.

My Deere battery finally quit a month ago so I took it to our local Walmart. They had a battery same physical size but 500CCA instead of 550CCA. I installed it and it's been working fine. $79.

I hope you find something that works for you - but - I have to say I'm puzzled, the posts on the battery shown look like any auto battery I've ever used so i don't understand the chatter about the posts not being round tops? What am I missing here?

Well it’s looking like the 151r battery is the closest thing that could fit though expensive.
