U bolts for ROPS

I want to strap my lights on the rops with 3" x 3" U Bolts. auto parts can only get them in 1/2" stud, I was thinking 1/4" or 5/16" would be heafty enough for a light. Any thoughts

John Deere parts has "black" U-bolts to match the ROPS... about ~ $2.... maybe 5/16" ?

DDT, I've used large stainless steel worm gear clamps that are available in plumbing supplys. As you tighten them down with a littte tapping they conform to any shape and give a clean installation.

Thanks for the help. I called my JD dealer and he did not know of any that size. Sounds like I can find some eles where.

DDT, If you just want 1/4" u-bolts, they are easy to custom make. I have done it several times. Just take 1/4" threaded rod and bend it in a vise to the size you need. Then cut some 3/4" or 1" wide flat stock to the right length and drill a couple of holes to make the clamp. You can make them any size or shape you need. For installations where I do not want them to scratch or to absorb vibration, I cover the threaded rod with black rubber fuel line hose. That makes it look better too.
