Tractor
BX22
I managed to pick up a 60" MM Mower for my BX22 so I could use it to mow the lawn as I continue to landscape the rest of the property. The tractor currently has bar tires on it and I'm afraid that it will tear up the new grass.

Has anybody tried to use bar tires while cutting the lawn, and what was the result? The flip side of this is if I buy turf tires, will I have trouble plowing snow, dragging a rake, or using the loader, etc? How much traction does one lose when switching from bar to turf tires?

And if I need turf tires, where is the best place to buy a set of rims (and tires for that matter) so I don't have to keep pulling the rubber on/off of one set of rims?

Thanks.
Jeff

I had filled bar tires on my old jd4100. It did fine for mowing accept if the ground was real wet, but I think you'd have that with turfs as well. Keep it out of 4wd on the turns and you'll be fine. I went with turfs on my current 3720 in hopes that they will be better in the snow(haven't tried them yet). The bars seemed to be real good at polishing the snow into strips of ice. Just my .02. You'll get a lot of posts on this. As far as where to get them I'd start at your local dealer to get a base price. Then seach the internet and the like. Good luck.

Save your self a hassle ;
You already have the best tires on your tractor.

If you would have used the search button, you would have found that there are already 147 threads on this subject. But hey, now there's 148.

Are we talking aboout R1 Ag tires, or R4? You can get all you need here.

Titan | America's Best Since 1898

We have a set of their turfs, and love them. Will be looking for R1 for the spring garden work.

Being the size tire and tractor you have I would not worry about getting turfs. They should not hurt or lawn unless it is really wet and even then turfs would hurt the lawn also. If you have a larger tractor with large diameter tires I would reccommend turfs or industrial tires becuase the lugs on the larger tires are alot deeper. In my opinion.

I had a JD 214 garden tractor that I mowed 1 acer for 23 years. I now have a JD 2210 with the R4,s If they were now available I would have gotten the ag tires.

I mow with bars. One thing I do is lower the air pressure to give the tire more contact area and spread the weight.

I mowed for a year with ag tires (R1) on my BX2200 without damage to the lawn.:)

Make that 4 years for me with a BX23.
That's mowing and everything else with the FEL and BH always attached.

Why would you mow with your FEL and BH attached? Do you NEVER take the attachments off?? That would be like us plowing the garden with the deck on.

3*That would be like us plowing the garden with the deck on.
1*Because I don't need to remove them.
2*No
3*To plow I would put a plow on the New BX1500.

I bought my BX1500 with turf tires. I have a blacktop driveway on a hill, 10% grade. I wondered if turf would have enough traction in winter for plowing snow. I ordered Kubota rims with Ag tires from my dealer, $328 delivered for 4 tires and rims... Surprising how inexpensive Kubota can be!

By the way, I have yet to mount the ag tires on the unit, as turf takes me everywhere (so far)

I did things a little different.

This one had Turfs but I had the dealer swap them for AGs ;even trade.

This one had Turfs but I went ahead and took it with the Turfs. http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk286/lb59/100_2313.jpg

Now I can argue for or against AGs or turfs depending on the mood I'm in or whose side I want to take.;)

You will only need them; if you want to work in the mud.
I've done more yard damage with the tractor with the turfs than I have with the other one.

Spoke too soon, will have to post pics...BURIED in mud (trying to fill in soft spots on trails), have been dropping wood chips, bark, etc in a rut left by log skidders 4 years ago. Like dropping bread crumbs in chocolate pudding! Anyhow, bucket full of stuff, front end went in, back end out, mower hung on edge. Got old tractor out, (plus side of old Iseki/Bolens is no safety interlocks on seat, gear tractor with low range). Put in granny 1st gear and pulled Kubota out. Great when you can be driving 2 tractors at once. I may be putting the ags on this week, snow in forecast and I haven't finished bringing in firewood yet.

No problem with turfs in the snow here in MN on my JD 4100, but they were worthless in the mud while we were building - they would just slick over with the clay.

Instead of buying Ags, I found it was much cheaper to get a set of chains to put on the rears over the turfs. The chains go on and off probably easier than swapping the whole rear wheel.

I have never felt the need to put the chains on in the winter, and I plow with a 66" front blade on a driveway without much slope.

When plowing the skating rink on the lake (pure smooth glare ice), I do run out of traction using the front blade, so I put on the snowblower instead and there is plenty of traction for that on the level ice.

148 threads on this subject, and all they ever do is go around, and around in circles.

The steering wheel spinner threads are just as bad.

Unless something new changes things drastically, there will never be a consensus on either subject.
