Fred, I'm sorry to tell you this but that land plane is too big for your tractor. Even the 4740 would struggle at times pulling it up steep hills pulling your grader. I use a 6' plane simply because bigger isn't faster. 5' would work fine as well. A 5' grader will cover 9' plus with one pass up and then down the hill. Once you get more HP you are now going to wonder if the HST transmission is designed to handle the extra power. You'll also need to add weight as your tractor now has more power to break the tires loose. On top of that when using a grader on hills traction becomes an issue. Your first pass will be driving on packed gravel but after that you'll be driving on gravel that you just loosened the pass before. If given the choice I would size the attachment to the tractor and not try to beef up the HP.

If you do try and add a turbo please document it and keeps us informed. I would like to see it done.

I try to do the same but often find that the bottom of the hill is where all the gravel ends up and needs to be pulled back up. But for me traction is a much bigger problem than HP.

The Fred,

In reading your earlier posts you joined in June of this year and must have bought your Kubota in June or July (this month). One post says you are an automotive technician which doesn't compute if "H is for hill". With all due respect, I suggest that anyone use a new tractor within its capabilities and with reason and give it lots of hours (hundreds) before coming to hard conclusions. Your L3940 is a credible machine.

Yep! 8' land leveler with all those tines is asking a little much, especially on steep terrain.

That's kinda like buying a 1/2 ton truck and complaining when it won't pull your gooseneck trailer up the mountain in the fast lane.

Trade the dang thing in for a MX5100 gear drive and be done with. You just got the wrong tractor! HST is part of the problem.
