TSC slip-clutch

I can't imagine anyone taking on the tractor end of the splined PTO shaft with a hack saw let alone while it's still on the tractor, not a lot of room to be cutting with a hack saw. Also as the post above pretty tough to cut thru.I think most of us know it's the implements PTO shaft that needs shortening, then again I suppose you never know.

Egon:

Next time you want to cut something like that, use a "Metabo" cut off wheel. They are made to fit angle grinders from 4.5" up to whatever. I use them for about everything from U bolts to socket head capscrews. I see that they are also made for masonry cutting too.

Right, Mosts of us know. BUT... I am new to tractoring but not new to mechanical work and I had to stop and think what the heck was being said. Maybe what got me wondering is the reference to cutting off the end of the shaft. I guess with my green-horn thinking, I think the middle of the PTO shaft is what needs to be cut for shortening (the triangle part that slides over each other). PLEASE let me know if this isn't right 'cause I am only guessing. I only have 17 hours on my tractor. I have rented before but never used 3PH stuff before. Most of what I have learned about that is from TBN (TractorByNet). /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It's a simple problem to solve...

You just get down there and hold the hacksaw against the shaft where you want to make the cut, then have your wife or girlfriend start the tractor and engage the PTO...

Guess this is thinking outside of the envelope...or better said, thinking one's way into a coffin...

I AM JUST JOKING. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!

Gee, I don't even think this is funny...guess I'll post it anyway since I typed it...

That's correct. If you'd like to see illustrated instructions, try looking at one of Bush Hog's owners manuals.

I can't believe you posted that. I hope no one takes you seriously but come to think of it, it would work. You'd have to wear safety glasses to keep the chips from getting your eyes as you'd be laying under................... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I got it, you were sampling that new batch of home brewed beer when you typed the post, RIGHT?

But if you do it that way, the spline will contact only a small part of the hacksaw blade - would you have to move the blade every once in a while?
