Went by the new Tractor Supply Company store in Merrimack, NH yesterday. It will have a grand opening on August 15. It is located at 515 Daniel Webster Highway south. It is in the old shopping center on the left hand side of the road for those that know the area.

Spoke to one of the people there and he told me they are also opening a store in Rhode Island and one up in Maine about the same time.

About time...Was trying to imagine where this is and couldnt quite place it. Is that the shopping center w/ the bowling alley across from Dunkin Dougnuts?

yes that is the place, but darn it is a long drive from where you are in TN. LOL Must be from around the area at some point in your life!

I talked recently with good friends of the Cabelas and they said it was a go. Maybe the town of Hooksett is trying to hold them up for more concesions, I do not know. It would be news to me if the store did not happen.

The town is actually putting up some for this, and are trying to limit there liability. They won't be getting any tax dollars at first while that area is developed and then will start receiving some down the road. I think Cabela's actually held the town up more then the other way around. I don't live in Hooksett so I haven't been following it too close, but I am excited to see the new store.

OK, I know exactly where that is! :) I used to live in NH (20+yrs). Only after I left did Cabelas and TSC move in. :( Whats up w/ that?? Oh well, there are TSCs down here in all the surrounding towns so I wont need to drive up your way any time soon. ;) Its good to see NH is FINALLY getting some good services so youre not forced to go to VT or MA or further. Its about time!!!!

I wonder how Cabelas is going to effect Rileys business? Theyre (Rileys) what Id consider a real old school gun store thats kept up w/ the times. Itd be wrong to see them go out of business by a 'big box'.

Rileys is still hanging in there and so is the place across the street! It's a bit tougher these days and getting harder to find places to shot, just not enough libs that are willing to hold up the targets!

You have a great range up your way as I recall, Pioneer. If youre talking about open land to use for shooting/hunting I would agree its harder to find. I hunted out my backdoor before the land got logged in prep for the McMansions and the trail bike types took it over. Then I started going to Deerfield off Coffee Town Rd. Theres access to a state forest there (the name of which I cant recall) which was really pretty good. The deer, vermon and Partridge hunting was very good. I also belonged to Kinnicum in Candia, a super range with a very active membership.

While Cabelas has a really great shooting/hunting dept its no Rileys either. I hope Rileys continues to thrive!!

Back on the topic of TSC...its good they decided to open a store b/c its certainly filling a void and pent up demand. When I lived in NH Id save all my shopping for vacations when Id visit family in TN. There are farm stores of the TSC type and/or TSC in nearly every town b/c theres an ag base to support it. I suspect thats one reason theres not more in NH...the ag base is dieing as land gets developed/reused for purposes other than ag. When I moved to NH there were well more than 100 dairys. When we left there were less than 20 and several of those were in their way out. I also know all of New England is severely hay deficit and much is trucked in from Canada or points south. Enjoy your TSC. :)

I'm suprised they didn't put one in the Keene area first. More ag/rural than Merrimack and you could get some of Vermont's south eastern business. I wouldn't think it would siphon off the Bennington or Rutland stores too much.

Hello Scotty, I guess the days of going to GLF or Agway is a thing of the past. Growing up we seemed to buy most of the farm suff from Agway right down to the boots on our feet. Last time I was home both feed stores were closed down and that is farming country.

Around here there is only the dealers to go to for attachments and other things so the price is always high it seems.

Pioneer is still there, but it doesn't seem to be too active. Just the signs of changes.
I hunted out my backdoor before the land got logged in prep for the McMansions and the trail bike types took it over.

I still can go out the back door and have hundreds of acres to hunt on, but the developers are starting to move in on us. It is difficult for many of us to accept change I guess. More and more land is being posted these days so it makes it difficult.

A good friend of ours sold off his dairy cows last year and is now only raising young stock. He had reached the age where he just couldn't manage the milking 7 days a week.

I am happy to see TSC coming into the area, it is a short drive for me, but I keep hearing the problems with some of the equipment they offer and wonder what it will really be like. I guess I have gotten good service from the dealers around here and not sure what to expect from TSC.

TSC is really good for some things and I guess the drill is to figure out what those are. In my experience its very store dependent. My closest is marginal but the next town down is excellent. Not sure why that is though. Thankfully I also have the coop to draw on which is really good for some things and others not. :)

Stopped in to the Merrimack store today on their first day of business.
I wasn't impressed. No grand opening sale, and looked to be only about 10% tractor supplies.

Well, i was hoping for more than 10% ! I'll still have to take a spin down there to check it out. Maybe on Saturday.

As far as Cabellas...... i've been to their store in Michigan, only one i've ever been to. WOW ! That place was mind boggling. Honestly, i don't think they would put Riley's out of business, but i guess you never know.
