Tree root killer needed

Not sure if this will work with locust, but around here when I have a stump to get rid of I burn it. For $40 I had a local metal fab shop make me a 4' diameter x 15" tall firering. I simply roll it over to the stump, pile burnables on top, and keep it going till the stump is gone.
