Can anyone tell me what size a trailer it would take to haul a YM2310 with loader? How much longer does it need to be with the tiller on? Will the tiller fit in a short bed pickup?

I would appreciate any help someone could provide. I know it sounds strange, but I have to drive some distance and I want to make sure the trailer I rent is large enough. May not even get that particular model, might opt for smaller unit. Will decide when I see them. In the mean time I want to be prepared ( my old Boy Scout days are coming through:) )

Thanks

On the presumption you'll be towing the trailer with a conventional ball hitch, the length of trailer doesn't matter one bit, other than the reality that long trailers handle better than short trailers.
What does matter, is where the axels are on the trailer.
You want to center the load weight over the axels, so you'll need to determine the center of gravity of the load. Then, you move the load forward just enough to maintain 200 to 300 pounds of toung weight.
If you don't have toung weight, the trailer will find it's speed of oscilation, and whip all over the road when you reach that speed. That WILL NOT be a fun experience, even if it doesn't send you off the road.
You also need to consider the weight of your towing vehicle and total weight of trailer plus load. Compare that to the load rating on the towing rig. Brakes on the trailer are also a question you need to understand.

All excellent points. I will be using a Full Size Chevy Van with 5.7 liter V8. It will be towed with a Class V Reese Hitch and 2" ball. Since I posted this message, my brother called with a 16ft dual axle trailer to use and it does have electric brakes for which my van is already wired from my camping days. I just need to get a 7 pin to 6 pin adapter tomorrow. The guy loaning the trailer even has all the load binders and chains. Can't beat that with a stick. I fully understand the point of properly positioning the load. I believe the 16ft dual axle trailer will give me plenty of length to adjust the weight of the load. I believe I am all set to become a Yanmar owner. I do wonder though, does everyone else have family members that think your nuts for buying a grey market tractor? Oh well, I never lived to please everyone else anyway. Might be interesting to hear some of the experiences that others have had with family and friends. I know some of mine will be in line to use it while at the same time wondering if I am crazy. One of the reasons I am sold on the Yanmar is this board. You guys should get a commission. Thanks for your quick response.

Snooks,

It sounds like you have enough trailer to get your yannie home....but be careful when you trailer the tractor...i.e., when you are loading and unloading it. When I bought my yannie, I too borrowed a trailer, and after listening to the safety advice.....I forgot to carry a couple of concrete blocks to put under the back edges of the trailer to support the weight of the tractor as I drove up on the platform....there I was, a newbie....VERY excited....up the ramp I went.....too fast...the front of the tractor went up in the air wheelie style....the tongue of the trailer lifted the back of the truck a few inches (and could have yanked off the hitch....damaging the truck tailgate because there was nothing supporting the weight of the tractor...it was simply and foolishly relying on the hitch ball and lock). So here is what I learned.....1. Slowly load the tractor, or prepare for one hell of a scare, and believe me, it's a scare you can do without. 2. Support the weight of the tractor with blocks under the back of the trailer when loading and unloading.

And regarding the grey market naysayers....some quasi tractor men in my wife's family issued severe warnings to me when I told them of my intent to purchase a Yannie....."you're throwing your money away"...."it's junk".....etc, etc....but I, like yourself, had researched and read this and other Yanmar owner's sites....and when I brought my 1610D home....they sheepishly came around, one by one....and grudgingly agreed that it was a good machine. Of course my wife was a little freaked by their initial reaction, but this past weekend one of her advising relatives even asked if he could borrow it...I just looked at her and winked. You will be happy with your yannie

I cut me 2 4X4 blocks of wood about 1" shorter than the trailer is off the ground. When I get loaded I just drive forward off the blocks. I always back my tractors on the trailer. I also did the wheelie deal one time.

Great tip guys. Boy, the help from this board never ceases to amaze me. This whole Yanmar thing is "a movement".... What would we do without technology.

Thank you very much,

You think you got alot of s#*t when you bought a Yanmar? Try telling them you're going to be a Jinma dealer.

Now they want to invest.

Hillbilly, I did the same dumb thing as you once when loading a tractor onto a trailer. The weight of the tractor picked up both the trailer and the back of the truck by the ball connection. Since I was parked on a slight incline with the parking brake on, when the back wheels of the truck came off the ground the whole rig started to roll backwards. A moment to remember......
The other thing to remember is to stop about ten miles into the trip and recheck the chains.

I did the same thing a couple of years ago trying to put a Farmall M on my trailer....and bent my ramps to boot. I didn't realize a Farmall weighted that much. Ended that project right then and there. Called a friend with a 1 ton truck and a Gooseneck trailer.
