Trailer hitch question?

/ Trailer hitch question? #41
Joshua there was a leverage problem with that hitch! I forgot all about it until reading your question. I had to look all over for this picture:mad:. That Ford sign was cut into 10-GA metal, and right behind the hitch is a 48-gallon diesel tank. I had to cut the receiver at an angle. I should have cut the receiver really short. But didn't catch all this until after a few trailer trips I noticed, the receiver bowing down a touch. This pictures shows how I bailed my self out of this mistake:eek:. The next hitch, (black one) I used 1/4-inch plate and as you can see the gussets. Also welded a piece of angle iron on the backside.
If you carry your wood working attitude into metal working you will do fine. Metal is stronger but it still needs a good design / engineering.;) Like I said before, the welding is the easy part!:D
