What do you all think of hauling a 4120 on a 7K trailer?? I do not want to buy another trailer but I will if needed. I am signing papers tommorow on a 4120 with 400x loader. The heaviest load would be the tractor with either the loader or RC1072 Frontier mower.

I have no problem with the 3320 on this trailer buy was not sure about the 4x20 series. Specs say 3700lbs for tractor plus ?? for loader.

Sounds pretty close to, if not over the limit. How much does the trailer weigh?

Too close to the knife edge... not worth the $2,000 it will cost you to upgrade to a 10K trailer. Or go the next step or two -- 12K or 14K trailer and have enough capacity for a 448BH and the mower!!

I do not know for sure what the trailer weighs. It is just a basic 7K car hauler. What would be a good estimate??

Wood floor or steel floor?

I bet the trailer weighs at least 2500#s.

I usually figure 4000 for the tractor and FEL.

MX-6 mower - 500lbs

2500 trailer
4500 load

That is 7000 right there. I bet you are very close to the max if not over.

John, Darin's numbers are real good...I've got a 7K trailer that's only 12ft long w/wood and it weighs 2000lb empty. I've had it on the scale. Be safe! Craig

Hello Craig

I've got a 7000 lb Big Tex, wood floor 1700 lbs empty. 3700 lbs for the tractor + loader (around 1000 lbs I would guess?) would put you at or just under 7000 lbs. You should be fine.

Congrats John, hope she serves you well!! Love to see a couple of pics when you get the chance.
I think I'll be trading the 2520 in on the 3320 in the fall. 73's

I will for sure get some pics at delivery Saturday. I wish I had told them sooner but have had a crazy week at work and could not be sure I would be home at the right time. I can hardly wait.

It will be over 7000lbs and most of those trailers only have brakes on 1 axel. My 4720, FEL and MX6 takes up all of my 22 ft trailer.

Agreed on the length. I have a 24' Big Tex and I leave the bucket on the front of the floor - the back okf the MX6 hangs off the back a foot or so.

I'm with Darin. My 4720 with 400x and bush hog take up almost all of my 25' gooseneck. As for the weight, I wouldn't put it on a 7k trailer. 10k yes, 7k no. You're coming in at ~5300lbs without fuel, oil, tire ballast, add-on weights, etc.

Hope you enjoy your new machine!!

John,

I would not chance a 4120 on a 7K trailer. My neighbor has a 4320 and a FEL/BB combo and he hauls his (uneventfully, so far) on his 7K 18' trailer. He looks like Jed Clampett, though and I wonder how safe he is doing this. He also has a Ford F350 dually which stabilizes his load somewhat due to its size, but he is over the limit for that trailer based on weight. My 4520 with FEL, 72" BB, 4n1 bucket and loaded tires hit the scales at well over 6,000 pounds, and most 7K trailers weigh from 1200 to 2000 pounds, which puts one at--or over--the intended limit. These tractors are also too physicially large to be placed appropriately on that size trailer (as most of them are 16' or 18' long), which means the load is likely to not be distributed well. My advice would be to spring for at least a 10K trailer, if not a 14K trailer to ensure you have adequate axles and brakes to handle the load. Radial tires are nice and help also with towing confidience in this type situation. That said, if you are going to be doing mostly short, off highway trips with your machine, or tow very rarely, you MIGHT be able to get by with your current setup. No way, though, would it be my advice if you are doing much highway or longer distance towing with your machine.

The next question is about the truck. Don't plan on pulling it with a little Ford Ranger.

I have a 1990 Chevrolet 2500HD 4x4

It sounds like I really need to invest in another trailer.

Ya, I would. Hate to see your new baby roll off into the ditch, or even worse, into oncoming traffic!!??

Your truck will handle it no problem. Performance will, of course, depend on the engine you have in it.

If I were you I'd get a 10k lb, or even 12k lb tandem deckover trailer (for the added width). Mine's a PJ and I'm very happy with it.
