trail clearing technique and tools

My wife recently got a rock thrown at her, nailed her just below the knee - big bruise.
Heavy pants on, but not her leather motorcycle chaps that she's often used in the past.

We wear those hiking boots that go above your ankle and double fronted pants with foam knee pads in them. All that is not 100% but it sure helps.

A few years ago I shattered the left rear side window out of our 93 suburban with a weed-eater and rock. Yikes! 🙃

I'm back clearing weeds n shoots at my ol bosses property's but I've taken no photos to post. Seems he can't get anyone to do it and I like this work. I was going through a string every 120 seconds so I switched to wet ones which did seem to help. I'll post more about this later.

The U.S.Forestry Service seems to think thier $15-$17/hr pay is enough. That's not competitive with private companies with $25/hr strarting pay. There's a lot more to that trade other than handling a shovel.
Granted, one must have a calling to want to do the heavy lifting part of that job, but some find reward in the results adequate. We all appreciate the results. Besides, who would take pride in their work just flipping burgers as a career?

FEL hydraulic polesaw sure has helped keeping the woods roads, trails and field perimeters clear of over hanging limbs and down trees. Can cut some big stuff without being in the danger zone. Sadly we losing 100s of ash trees too.

Best thing I have since 2018 is a 5' tarter tsc, bushhog for maintaining overgrown xmas tree rows. Decimates new "shoots" of popple, birch, and aspen, carelessly bent the deck a little, went thru my faire share of shear bolts, and an overrun coupler but still going strong, checking gearbox fluid , frequently greasing u-joints etc, if I had more time or something I'd probably try and build a off set to one side to mount it on tph. Found a hydraulic top link aids significantly for setting the deck and cut height.
