I am in the process of making a camouflage case to secure my game cam. How's this?

Old Hornetnest are gathered and sold at at the flea market around here. Why anybody would want to decorate their house with old hornet nest is beyound me. Someone could end up stealing you camera thinking they are just gathering another nest to sell. Now if you can install your camera in a nest that is still occupied, you might have a winner.

If their intent was to hide who they were and what they were doing, then they could have smashed it and hauled off the pieces to hide the evidence rather than to steal the camera for its value.
If you look at the Moultrie line, you will see that they include a simple tree strap and buckle that thread through two thin plastic external slotted ear loops casted onto the rear of the case. All it takes to steal the camera is to unbuckle it or if a modified steel strap and lock is substituted, just simply break the thin external strap ear loops off and the still fully functional camera is now in the hands of others.

Have you thought about making a bunch of wooden boxes that the camera could fit in? You could put up lots of boxes so thieves wouldn't know which one had the camera in it. You could also move the camera around. If you have the resources you could make a box out of metal, something thick enough to stop a shotgun blast. I would also disable the flash, if it has one. Nothing like a nice bright light to give away the location of a camera.

Some lawn and garden places sell fake hornet nests, apparently they are territoral and will not come around another nest.

Many folks like me point a camera at a salt lick, block, mineral lick they made or a pile of corn. Its not hard to find a camera pointed at theses. The chainsawing a hole in a tree sounds the most interesting to me. just make sure its a big enough tree to not be pushed over in a wind storm, that and im a forester and dont condone damage to trees, esp if there not yours.

I have tried the camera at a well used trail trick, and at least in my woods that leads to no pictures after a month or one of a deer butt (i know slow trigger on cam) or just wind pics? I dont see how you can have a camera in teh middle of nowhere even on a trail and capture very many pics.

One exception is when i put it on my field where i know the deer eat in my food plot, right next to a scrape. I got the little buck several times that made the scrape and a few does feeding in the field.

If you put corn out you see 20x more deer, you will see bucks that you have never seen in daylight and most likely will never see??

My moultrie had "eyes" for a cable...thick but still plastic.
I assume that they broke or cut them away......Excrement!!!

I found someones trail cam in my apple orchard strapped to a tree on the edge of my field. (glad they asked permission)
I didn't take it, I did walk up behind it and hold up a piece of paper that said if the camera was found again I was gonna have the DNR remove it for me.
I guess i could have just taken it but, I don't want to start a problem when i live so far out in the country... I'm sure I would have had some of my stuff disappear if i would have done that.

Now that's funny. I think this is a great idea!

Radioman, I have a similar problem. I appreciate your inputs here so I'll share my issues with you.
I only get to my land about every 6 weeks and don't want to start a problem which could escalate to my building and the equipment inside. So far....all that is touched is my stolen camera which was way down in the woods from my building. I suspect neighbor "Bubba's" turkey hunting and didn't want their trespass recorded.
In addition to covering the deer trail... I have a building with a tractor and alot of expensive equipment housed. I want a camera ON the building. IF I mount a camera high and they spot it....they'll shoot it. A security box almost doubles the SIZE of the camera's visibility making it easier to spot. Much harder to STEAL but easier to spot/shoot. Maybe I could wrap a box with camo tape then tie branches and leaves on it......the wasp nest idea was cute but not really large enough and/or something else they would want to take home. I have an old army trailer CHAINED in front of my building...thinking about cutting a "view hole" for a camera in the side of that....maybe it would look innocent enough to be ignored???? or strapping the camera UNDER the trailer.....ideas?
thanks

boeing - I think I much rather keep your oringinal idea on the building. You might as well cut a small hole on wall just beneath the eaves big enough for camera to peer through. Cover the hole with a piece of clear plastic from your recycle bin or plexiglass if you have any and mount camera inside the building. I really doubt any one will know the camera would be there as you probably cant see a quarter sized hole unless you are 10 feet away.

Hidden camera(s) inside your buildings looking out. Hidden camera(s) inside your buildings looking in. Outside hidden camera(s) in fake/real birdhouse, inside a large diameter wooden fence post, "dead" tree or log, etc. If possible use the ones with the remote storage, which can be in a different secure hidden/camo location.

It all comes down to how much of your money you are willing to spend to protect your property.

Compare the cost of cameras to hiring private security....
