Nice step - On my L3830 the HST pedal is in the way if you get in from the right. If it is in gear you could go for an unexpected ride!

Tractors like horses should be mounted on the left side. Just like lawn mowers, the grass shoot is almost always on the right and you should never mount from the right. On most tractor all the controls are on the right and that makes it darn near impossible to get into positions without pulling hoses or levers.
I guess it was drilled into me when I was a about 10 and started mowing the yard. Dad saw me get on the lawn tractor from the right side. I ended up mowing for a little while standing up. Just my 2 cents.

Right on wedge40. From the early agrarian days, all pulling livestock if mounted were mounted from the left "on side". Even the early stock pulled riding attachments were of the same mounting side and so were the first tractors. From an early selling standpoint it was a good crossover move.

I hear what you're saying, but we get on ours from both sides just to play with their heads. You get some strange looks when you do it though, "What in the hel* are they doing now ??" And that's from the horse, never mind any onlookers. Try leading one from the right side sometime, I did it this morning just for the hel* of it. A few odd looks, and he settled in and walked along.

Still on the fence about modifying the FEL joystick on either tractor.

Nip 'er off about 5 inches. I finally cut mine and am happy with the result. Still hooks under a loose coat though unless I'm careful, but getting on in the woods is ever so much easier now. I used to really hate walking around to get on from the left, and sometimes it just made life more difficult than it needed to be.

Guess I just saw the utility of changing the "genetic" habits.
