tractor hauling

I have hooks welded to my bucket, and use 1 High test 5/16 chain on the front but hooking to the trailer then to the hook, then throw the chain to the other side and repeat. Then at the back, I have a clevis on the draw bar and run a 3/8 high test chain through it and use a standard binder with a 2 ft pipe to cinch it down. This setup works great, and is safe and quick. When I load up tonight, I'll try to take a few pics to give you a clear visual.

Does anyone use the ratcheting type binders? I bought one to try but don't care for it as much.

Overkill or not, I do know for a fact that here in Pa. it is the Law that 1 chain is required for each corner of every machine.
Also every boom that can swing must be locked with a pin and/or chained to prevent swing.
This is the way, I understand the new law that went into effect as of January 1, 2004. This is a U S Department of Transportation law for all states.

I think you would want ratchet straps rated for 3X your load. As for chafing.. I use old fire hose as a sleave for my straps.
