This looks fantastic. I can see parts for a bucket quick hitch against the wall, but also another boom?

If I remember correctly, it's planned to be a three-section boom so that is likely the last section.

Yes, there are three sections. I will post pictures next week. Now I got the first cylinder in place, had no time last week

Looking great. Worth weight in gold, considering price of steel now. Hope all is well with you and your wife.

Yes, well, the prices jump all the time...it's not normal. What's the price per kg in America?

A few months ago, I got a price for a sheet of plain steel for fabricating here. 1/4" x 48" x 96" $480 (3 times the price of 2 years ago).

If my calculation is correct, I believe this works out to $3.13/kg

Price of carbon plate has been slowly coming down lately here

Just ordered some 1/2 plate, 60x120, was around $1.07/lb or $2.35/kg.

Couple weeks ago we were paying around $1.2x/lb, still not as good as the $.60-.80/lb we were see not long ago

Excited to see the next round of progress.

I have been wanting to build new arms for my small backhoe, but seeing this thread again has done something to me.. it made me think about just ADDING a 3rd arm between the existing two. 😂😅

So, did you add the 3rd arm? :)

No, but i sure haven't forgotten! I need to watch a bunch of videos and get my head around the pros/cons of the 3rd arm. It would certainly make the machine a little more complicated to operate, but it would also let me use more hydraulic circuits at once to push or pull on things if the angles were right.. working that whole thing out is on my mental 'to-do' list..

A variable boom doesnt make it more complicated to operate, because you dont really adjust the adjustable boom during digging. You adjust the boom to change between reach, and heavy digging or lifting closer to the machine.

The biggest advantage over a teledipper on conventional TLBs is that you have full crowd force on the dipper whether its extended or not, and that you can dig without having to retract a too long stick every cycle because it gets close to the ground under a short boom.

That's exactly why I have chosen variable boom instead of telescope. Besides, you switch between functions with a press of a button, it's not like you have to search the right lever to pull
