If you start a new thread on that, link to it here so I can follow it. Your work is world class and your improvements would be interesting to watch.

Twin boom means that the first part of the boom has a articulated joint in the middle. This way you get alot more reach and height

thanks, never heard of it.

Hey, why do you need a lot more height reach? I thought You'll need much more deep to reach? :)

But looks like you a ready to design something, we'd never seen before.

This is an example of twin boom. How so you never heard of this? Most city wheeled excavators have this option...at least here...

That's the first one I've seen. It certainty looks useful. I wish my backhoe went higher. I've never needed it to dig deeper.

Never saw a twin boom around here.

OK, do not remember. Or at least never took those into account.

But could you please enlighten my poor head, what kind of jobs this double boom could do differently comparing to single boom one? Is it to excavate something from beyond obstacle? :)

It can dig deeper and reach higher. Also it can help you dig in tight places, right next to the machine without losing power at the end of boom. This way you get a backhoe, crane and excavator in one machine

Got it. I'll take them into account from now around me :).
OMG, it's a huge job to design something like that. Good luck with your project.

Yup....geometry is a bitc* and it takes alot of time :)

Believe me, I know, what you mean.
Each single millimeter or angle removed or added you must rethink twice... in space. Especially not to get out of dimensions after welding.
I'm now in a project too, much more simple than yours, but still - a lot of things to think about.

I know you use Hardox for cutting edge. Do you use Weldox steel for booms - one of the best Swedish type steels for such purposes?

Type of material will depend on the money issue ofcourse. I hope to use at least Domex for the boom. That gives mi less weight and more strenght. Hardox is a must if you want to build a durable and heavy duty bucket.

We call it a triple. And the Germans call it VA (verstellbares ausleger, or adjustable boom)

Where i work, we cut up a brand new boom and weld a hinge in them. Sometimes a boom quick connect inbetween, so the customer can attach sections to get to demolition heights of 70 meter.

Thank you Great Escape.
Renze, that's an impressive height. I never saw this on a backhoe and from my experience with rk 525, there would be some major benefits from this kind of boom, that's why I plan to build it this way

Yes, the house is an endless investment. It's also one of the main reasons for building this backhoe. I will probably figure something out..

Hello BFreaky...I see it's been a year since that message, so how is the house coming along? Any updates? Got any pictures or ideas to post? And of course I'm as curious as we all are to know if your new house includes an attached workshop...... :)

I come by the question honestly, having designed and built several houses (and workshops) over the years. Nothing fancy, and just for myself to try out new ideas in structure, lighting, heat systems, and of course the overall look. For a builder type of guy, a house is a great chance to see one's drawings come to life, plus houses tend to have the advantage of being worth more than they cost to build.
Curious how yours is coming along.

Indeed, most backhoes (extendahoes) have a telescopic dipper stick. There are also telescopic demolition booms but our company never made them: especially in demolition all crush dust falls into the sliders, causing a lot of wear. And to produce a telescopic boom that lasts without cracking is also very hard. A triple boom is a much simpler and therefor more reliable way of adding reach to an excavator.

My first idea was to make a telescope but I gave up on that because of the reasons that you mentioned and because I think adding weight on the end of the dipper causes loss of lift power and more wear on every joint of the machine.
RScotty, we've moved into our new house. It's not completley finished yet but that's a long process which takes time and money. When it's done it's done, there is no hurry. Yes, we attached a future workshop but it can not be used yet. Need to install electricity, lights and doors. I hope I'll do it in few weeks
