After the dealer's discount, the 72" Deere 4-in-1 was going to cost me 1395 with manual valve and lever control; I paid 1550 for the 72" Long 4-in-1 with electric valve and joystick control.

Don--thanks much. I did some heavy duty use of the loader today consolidating a very large and spread out burn pile (created dragging downed trees with an old Jeep Cherokee) with many big trees and logs, and the tractor performed flawlessly with such ease. The hydro transmission is just great and the tractor is NOT oversized--I worried I overdid it, but I can now say the size for what I need to do is just about right.

And thanks SRS and JayC. I'll put years and many hours on this tractor, and after struggling with a Ford 9N for too many years, I'm a happy camper.

That machine is TOO COOL!!

Do you have a pic that shows the setup of the hoses for the 4 in 1 on the loader? Did they use rigid pipe, or flex?

That machine should give you many years of satisfactory service. I love the new 4000 Twenties. The HP for their class is unheard of. Deere seems to be carrying that logic to the new 3000 Twenties, too. Can't wait for them to show up. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Thanks guys.

Mike, I think they used rigid up until the bucket, but I'll shoot a photo of the hoses on the 4-in-1 this weekend and post.

By the way, there are a few more photos of the loader setup in the John Deere gallery.

Mike--sorry I didn't post these earlier. Non stop rain lately. I finally just went out in the rain, pulled back the cover and took a couple of shots attached here. Looks like flex hose from the valve to the 4 in 1, rigid to the bucket motion.

Sadler, Those hydraulic lines are not going to last. Your dealer should be ashamed of himself for sending you home with that set-up. I commend you to insist he run proper lines to your 4-in-1. Thanks for the photos. I hope to get some up of my new 4410 this week.

Dave--I've had a few close calls snagging the hoses already, but I figured that was par for the course. Not sure you can use rigid tubing and still have the 4-in-1 able to pivot and open. What is the best to use here?

Sadler, I would like to see metal lines on the boom all the way down to the pivot point. From there, sufficient lengths of flexible lines encased in either the canvas-type protective sleeves or the spiral metal, spring-type sleeves. The flexible lines should attach to metal lines at the point that they meet the bucket, in line with the boom, and run from that point to the 4 in 1 cylinders..

Thanks Dave. I'll tell the dealer to make the changes when the tractor goes in for the 50 hour service. I could change the lines myself but I think you're right and the dealer should change them. Many thanks for pointing this out; I'll be careful with the lines in the meantime.

Still love this tractor. Had to post one more photo as this thread closes out. This one of my seven year old daughter hamming it up, buckled up in the seat.

Sadler, enjoyed the pics of your 4320 with 4&1 bucket. You have got a great setup there. That will be my next tractor when and if the bucks appear.
I see that you took a pass on Longs bucket anti spill plate option. As an alternative, consider a hood guard, spill plate or hood guard do a good job of protecting hood when loading gravel. A good local welder could set you up with a spill plate also.
I agree with Dave on the hydraulic plumbing of the 4&1, job could have been done better. While hoses are ok, they should be anchored and protected better then shown in pics.

I had the dealer include a four in one with my 4320 ( 448 Hoe, MX-6 rotary buush cutter ) and they did a little better job using hose held to the round tube between the loader arms with a bungee cord. I have done 50 Hrs. of brush cutting with this setup and have had no problems. When you get the
" NEW SETUP" please post pictures!
I did notice that your four in one has a round tube on top to work the jaw. mine is square. I was under the impression that I had a JD bucket but now I need to confirm with the dealer.
I guess the manufacturer could have changed this detail and they both could be JD buckets.
I know that you are enjoying your machine as much as I am.
The wife has started reminding me that I have other work to do around the place that does not involve the tractor!

George--I switched to the Long bucket at the last minute in my dealing for the tractor and just forgot about the spill plate option. It would have been a good choice. I'll probably get some plate and weld one on eventually. Long did a nice job installing the tooth bar and the bucket "lips" have teeth that seem to help. I do have a hood guard; I think it's standard with the loader. A couple of times already I've come close to having a sizeable limb tumble out of the bucket onto the hood. That would not be good. Thanks for the tips.

Thanks Dave. The tractor really is awesome in use; very addictive. My wife was rolling her eyes yesterday as she explained to my college daughter in Portland that "Dad is hooked on tractors now....He's been on it all yesterday and today." And I'm thinking, better tractors than ...(pick your word). I'm finally beginning to whip this farm back into some semblance of shape.

And Gary--I went back and added a ton of cable ties to mine to get the hoses to work as one stronger hose, and to get them up and somewhat out of the way, but the way I'm using the loader to move logs, limbs, and brush in huge hunks is bound to break a hose eventually. I'll do as you suggest and post photos of the fix after it's done. One wierd thing is that when the ROP is folded down (flat ground, low limbs) and locked in place, the lift arms for the 3 point hitch hit the ROP when the lift arms are all the way up. And boy does the hydraulic pump not like that, not to mention the dent it made in the ROP. I'm betting the Deere engineers' CAD system missed this little "interference". No big deal, I just keep the 3 point from going all the way up when the ROP is folded down.

And Gary, you asked about whether we have Deere or Long buckets. I've attached a photo of a Deere bucket here. The dealer accidentally ordered it for me, so I was able to photo both it and the Long bucket side by side. I'll post the Long bucket next, but you can see it in the background of the photo of the Deere bucket here. Both have round hinge tubes; the Deere tube looks bigger. But the Long bucket has teeth (not a Deere option on 4 in one that I could find), supposedly opens twice as wide, and can be ordered with the electric valve and joystick control.
