Would some sort of steering mechanism for the cars be better than none?
Something like the old Radio Flyer wagon design.

Yes, especially if you need to make a tight turn.
The design of double & triple semi-trailers would be a good one to copy.

After checking out the videos on YouTube, I think you're right the nursery tracking wagons would be just the ticket.Thanks!
