Tow Strap replacement chunk

Ok I will date myself. Years ago you could take a broken/damaged tow strap to your local shoe repair shop and have anything you wanted sewn into a loop. For a couple of bucks they would repair the loop. Now the challenge is to find a shoe repair shop that is still in business.

Actually I live outside a town that has a custom cobbler shop that makes custom orthopedic shoes and has re-heeled more than more than one pair of cowboy boots for me. I'll have to see if they can do this for me.

I second a short sling I know around here you can get them with steel rings in one or both ends not sure where you could find that in your area but I'm sure someone who sells lifting equipment could help you out. Or you could just use a clevis on one end.

Short strap with two D rings are called 'tree saver' straps in the 4x4 community. Used to attach a winch cable to a tree, instead of wraping the cable arround the tree.

I use crane lifting straps. They are color coded for certain period of time and have to be replaced regardless they are used or not. When they do replace them they don't throw them away but give them to whoever wants to take them. Once I got lucky and got several unused sets on offshore platform. They are much stronger than regular tow straps so no chain would be necessary. From the safety point of view they are also safer if they break.

A buddy of mine took his cut recovery strap to a custom car interior shop that did that for him. Not many shoe repair places left around here.
