Anyone remember the old "TroyBilt" ads comparing their product with front tine tillers? I could do a take off from that, comparing my "Horse" model rear tine to a nice 3 pth unit on a Kubota ... obviously they don't have rocks in that part of New York. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Actually they are a handy tool. I only wish I'd taken advantage of their "rebuild for half the price of a new one" deal, before they went bankrupt. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
I've put in many new gardens with mine over the years, for myself as well as other people. That's probably why I wore out the motor, and a set of tines. Now that I have my own land I'm working the same piece of ground, expanding a little every year; and it's finally starting to pay off. This will be my fifth summer, and the first where I don't go over it first with the backhoe.

Bought a Troy Bilt Horse back in 1978. Still have it. Still use it. Still love it. We bought a "Troy Bilt" Bronco II last year for cultivating the garden. I sort of doubt it will be around 28 years from now. Sorta doubt it will outlast the old Horse.

They don't make 'em like they used to..... They never did.

I bought mine from my uncle about 15 years ago. I believe it was made in '73. If I had kept working the same piece of ground every year I'd have the rocks picked out, and my arms wouldn't feel like they're about to fall off right now. Hopefully in a few years when my soil's in better condition I'll be able to use it one handed the way they showed in their ads.

At least this time I had the backhoe, so I skimmed the sod off instead of fighting it. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

It's too bad they went under. I haven't looked at the new models but have never been impressed with MTD. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
