Hey guys,
I just ordered the rear remote kit for my CK20 HST.Iwas thinking about a cylinder from Surplus Center item # 9-7258-14.The retracted length is 21-1/4" which is very close to the short length of my top link( 21").My question is the 14" stroke.Do you think this will be a problem.I thought the normal stroke would probably be 10".Anyone have an opinion.By the way I have lurked on this forum for quite awhile but this is my first post. Thanks RLP

What is the retracted and extended lengths of your existing manual top link? You should try to match them as close as possible. An inch difference in either direction will probably not make much difference.

Welcome to the site. I think it should OK since you are in control of extension/retraction length with the remote valve. I'd use 1/4" hoses in order to slow the action as much as possible.

One thing about the added extension length of your hyd cylinder...
If you're using the boxblade with the scarifiers all the way down, be sure to watch that those rippers don't end up in your rear tires. Depends how far back your boxblade sits from the tractor, but mine come pretty close. If I rotated them more, they would hit the rears.

Navy, glad to have another CK20 owner posting. Does your moniker imply USN? My tractor is within five miles (as the crow flies) from the Newport base and we have an ex WWII ammunition dump on our island (empty now thankfully).

Shaley, thanks for that observation.I was wondering which hose to order.

Keep us posted on your toplink project. I have the same tractor and have had the same questions you've posted. I just haven't gotten far with that project. I have a lot of landscape raking to do in the next six months and a hydraulic toplink would be very helpful.

As long as the extended length is close you will not have any problems.

However, if I were you I would wait until February when CCM will have the good cylinders with check valves. It will be well worth the wait since the check valves will prevent drifting/leakdown of the top link cylinder. Some cylinders drift more than others so it's like a crap shoot as to what yours will do. Waiting a few weeks and spending a few dollars more will be worth it in the long run, just ask anyone who has cylinders with check valves. Oh, and use 1/4" hoses as they will have just the right amount of restriction to allow you to feather the TL.

Yes, I have a set of rear remotes. Which connectors you need depends on the connectors on the tractor. I am not certain but there seem to be at least a couple of different styles. Mine I recall are Pioneer but even they make different styles.

I presume you already have rear remotes on the tractor. Perhaps your dealer knows which type of quick connector they used.

Alternatively you can look on some of the on line catalogs to see if you can recognize the style. (I'll look for a URL and edit this post if I can find one)

Mad, I called CCM Fri and the guy told me he did,nt know when he would have the cylinders, sometime in 2007.I thought that was a very vague answer.

Call him quick and order the fittings and hoses to run to the toplink as well. He has the capability of making up hydraulic hoses in any length and stocks all the appropriate fittings.

See the post by CCI in the thread right HERE. I am only repeating what he said.

Thanks Mad and Island,I called Amy and she said she will have Rick call me.The strange thing was I asked Rick about the Cyl. hose and fittings that I might need but he did,nt say a word about making the hoses or that he had the fittings.Must have had something else on his mind.

Navy, Rick may have held off as you don't know the fitting size on the toplink cylinder yet. I presume it will be SAE three eights or half inch or something like that but he would need to know that before he can make up hoses for you. The vendor for the toplink cylinder should be able to give you that information and you can then pass it on to Rick. He will make up two hoses (specify 1/4 inch as others have noted) with a matching quick coupler male fitting on one end and a standard SAE ?female fitting on the other. He knows his business so don't take what I have written literally and he'll prompt you for the information he needs.

IF you want a Top cylinder with double pilot checks you might try contacting Little Tractor in Metropolis Il. He had several on his shelf the last time I was there. I have no idea what the cost would be for the size you need but he's always been reasonable for things I've needed. Good luck.
