Not nearly as uncommon but some of the younger crowd on here may never have seen one of these. Or at least one of these that is not broken

I love my folding rule, but it's the kind with the slidey thingy for making inside measurements...it's the best thing for measuring cabinet door openings and windows for blinds.

I'd like to buy one but I haven't seen one for sale for years.

Search "folding ruler" on Amazon.

Remember this sight? DSCN0019.JPG Now look at this sight: DSCN0020.JPG #2 is what we called our pipefitter ruler. #1 doesn't work well when measuring for a cut line on a pipe. Why carpenters like #1 is beyond me as I use mine all the time for all types of work. Called an "inside measuring ruler"; also available on Amazon. We always carried both #2 and a 35' yo-yo. The 6' of the inside reader worked great for short measurements. To each his own.

While building my house, I had all the contractors compare their measuring tapes, start of day. I was surprised how "off" some were. Cause a 16th here and there adds up. I probably have 9 or 10 measuring tapes and measuring systems. And they don't entirely match to the same 16th. :) The folding rods were useless, for finish work, and I have had many of those. :) So I bought 6, quality, measuring tapes, all from the same company, and that is what the contractors were required to use. One standard. And that worked out. I guess there is an old saying that, what the Framers messed up, will be corrected by the Dry Wall crew, and what the Dry Wall Crew messed up will be corrected by Finish People, and what the Finish people can't fix can some how be fixed by the paint crew. :)

Awwww, you weren't supposed to notice! Anyway it's American carpentry, so anything within 1/4" is acceptable. Isn't it?

Despite the name of the thread, "non-family friendly" or "adult" pictures are not allowed on TBN...

They still make them and I’ve used them. Personally I hate the things.
