too late to plant?

i have some clover/winter wheat mix i wanted to plant in mid september (suggested planting date aug 15 - sept 15). could i still plant it now or is that just a waste of good seed? if it doesn't come up now will it come up next spring? area gets decent hours of sun most of the day, loosing some from the mountains.
