Toilet paper

My father had an "L" for a while, back when he was buying older tractors. It was a pain to get on, IIRC you had to climb up over the back of the seat to get on it. He was in his '70s and sold it for that reason.
His would have been a good parade tractor with a little cosmetic work.

As you know, clutches sometimes seize up on tractors, so I had to learn a new trick. We parked the tractor behind the barn with nothing in front of it. I learned that the clutch would not release and you could not get it into gear with the engine running. So I'd crank it (yep, had to hand crank) to get it started, and let it warm up a bit. Then shut it down, put it in first gear, crank it, and get out of the way as it took off, but of course slowly in first gear, and then climb on from behind, as you said, stand on the clutch pedal, rev up the engine and stand on the brakes to pop the clutch loose. It's a wonder a 10-12 year old kid didn't kill himself with that thing.

Nope, we didn't get a tractor until I was 10. That was when my Dad bought a 10 year old John Deere L and I did a lot of work just to get to drive the tractor.

Our neighbor had an A and a B. I thought both were hard to run as a kid. Dad thought they were dangerous for a kid. Neither had fenders.

Guys, really enjoyed the old pictures many of you posted.

I will never forget working on a farm during haying season when I was 12....I was a city kid. Great memories. We did not use gloves for any farm/yard work. Now I put on gloves to pick up branches that have fallen during the winter storms...got old and soft I guess.

We had 140+ acres about 25 miles from the city and my dad bought a JD40 dozer when I was about 10. I got to operate it when I was 14 or so. That little machine did a lot of work for us. 6V, gas, two cylinder. My dad was a magician with that dozer. We hired a contractor to excavate a large pond and my dad was helping where he could with the little Deere. Contactor asked my dad if he wanted a job.

Wish we had not sold it after my dad passed away. A couple of years ago looked at getting one but could not justify it.

OH..back on track...TP at the discount market we shop at but none at the Walmart or Meijer.

Stores around here all seem to have some toilet paper on the shelves, just not much of a brand selection. One might have Charmin, the next store will have some other brand.

Kroger and WalMart are still low on canned vegetables for some reason, Spam is non existent, yet tuna can be found at all the stores.

I spoke with the store manager yesterday... he has shelves full of product and shelves empty... said it's a great visual as to what people are buying...

Yes... they did have a lot of tuna on the shelf... not once have I bought a can of Tuna.

Greeting cards and floral sales non existent... they have a great florist.

Bathroom "Cleaning" products well stocked.

Beer, especially Corona which has always been a top seller... plenty in stock and even on sale.

Paper products of all kinds, TP, napkins, towels, paper plates... sold out.

Also, limiting Ice Sales... power has been on so what is with the run on Ice.

Speaking of Ice... Ice Cream freezers full with some 50% off... ???

Those old '40s did a lot of work. My father had two over the years, and also a 420 if I remember correctly. He was always buying something he wanted, needed for a project, or because the price was right; using it for a while and selling it.

Why on earth would people be avoiding Corona beer? Are people that stupid? Why would people be buying ice in extra amounts?

Corona was regular price locally, the last time I went into the grocery store.
I wonder if people reaiize that they can make their own ice? In summer I like to keep a couple of gallon jugs of water in the freezer, in case I decide at the last minute to go camping.

Going through the periods without extended power and the threat of earthquakes the old 1967 Amana freezer has several two liter bottles with frozen water plus I have some of the ice pillows used for medical shipments...

A full freezer will last a very long time in the garage without power...

Seems toilet paper shortage is worldwide... at least in the Europe from those I know.

From what I hear the penalties from going out are also more severe.

A new word in German is House Arrest... those that are older are using the term a lot... home and garden confinement.

The funny thing is that there are warehouses full of toilet paper; it's a delivery problem which keeps them from getting it out.

/ Toilet paper #453
Daily almost non stop semi trucks at the grocery store I frequent... if anything they have more deliveries.

I typically would pick-up the hospital order at 6 am opening and be just about the only customer... and got to know many of the employees.

The last couple of weeks the parking lot is half full at 6 am.

Instead of 1 register there are 3 or 4 open.

One thing that has not worked out well is senior shopping hours... manager said no way to enforce it.

The bank new one customer at a time inside does seem strange... the entire teller counter is behind plexiglass and with positive pressure and employees with gloves... sure seems much safer than say being a grocery store cashier?

Why on earth would people be avoiding Corona beer?

I used to have a neighbor who drank Corona beer. I tried it once, and if it wasn't the worst tasting beer I ever tried, it was definitely in the running. Obviously a lot of people like it, but I wouldn't drink it if it was free.

As for tuna, we don't eat much of it, but always have a few cans on hand and mix it with a little chopped onion, chopped tomato, pickle relished, and Miracle Whip to make a pretty good sandwich.

Spam isn't too bad, sliced and fried, but I haven't bought any in a long time and have no plans to do so in the future.:licking:

I didn't know that they still made Spam... except for what keeps filling up my mailbox. I don't eat a lot of tuna but keep about a dozen cans on hand, divided between each truck with some in the house. (I keep 2500 calories of food along with 2 gallons of water in each truck)

Not only that, but Spam is really heavy on the salt.
My wife makes the same sandwich you described, also good with potato chips inside the sandwich!

Spam is big in Hawaii... I know that from nurses I work with...
