Just bought a new Chevrolet Bolt. Wish I would have done it years ago.

Little maintenance, convenience of charging at home. and plenty of range. Extremely comfortable on the road.

No longer offered in the US, of course. For $20k though, I would want more than a 60 mile range. It might be nice in Boston or DC, but if I lived in those towns I probably would ride the bus.

Electric cars definitely won't help the pollution problem
Big business pollutes way more than automobiles ever had, or ever will.

We need businesses in the US held responsible for their pollution
We need other countries to participate and hold their businesses responsible too

Unfortunately this will never happen, so they go after the people who are the easiest to target and force change upon. Even if everyone in the US switched to an EV, that would have very very minimal impact on pollution.

From what I've read (so, take it with some skepticism), China and India produce 25%-30% of the world's greenhouse gases...and refuse to do anything about it...
So, ban imports from both countries...

With many manufacturers now advertising ev, even in trucks (Ford Lightning, CyberTruck, Rivian) would you invest in an EV vehicle? If everything moves to electric, when do you think you would switch to an ev -- or maybe Hybrid. The future of gas and diesel looks questionable.

I bought a new truck in 2021. Things are changing. The V8 engine is almost a thing of the past. When do you think, as you shop for a new vehicle, you will consider EV as your best choice? Will that happen when you want to keep your truck 6-8 years and gas stations might become difficult to find?

Then there are EV tractors.

So what will you do with it after 6 to 7 years. No one will buy a used electric vehicle that basically needs a battery that cost more than is worth. And try to take it to a junkyard and see how fast they turn you away...hmmm

That's a good point...and, IMHO, something the manufacturers should be held accountable

I like the Bolt and even more time in the Volt and there was an EV around for a longtime.

Last Fall, there was a guy locally trying to sell a 2010 Nissan leaf with under 50k miles for $3,500. He said the battery pack was down to two bars. The Nissan dealer couldn't tell me if any battery was available or what it would cost without connecting the car to their diagnostic system for a $500 fee. Even with a new battery pack, the range of the car wasn't going to be that good compared to a hybrid. The guy ended up trading it to a dealer who jacked the asking price to $8,000- $9000 as I recall. If someone didn't do their homework, they could have really gotten a rotten deal in that situation.

Ended up with a Honda Insight hybrid that been okay so far though I worry about the battery replacement cost and/or repair cost if the hybrid system fails.

With the current technology, a combination gas/electric hybrid seems to make the most sense in terms of overall economy and unlimited range. But it is more complicated if something goes wrong. I don't know if my local mechanic would touch it. He's a pretty skilled mechanic. Certainly smart enough, but if there are specialized tools involved and he doesn't have enough work to support buying those tools, he's not going to dig himself into a financial hole.

One huge advantage of being old...I do not give a flying tuck.

I have two F150's and will drive them into the ground. 70k on one and 162k on the other. We do 20k a year. If they last 250k each I will not need to buy anything for 13+ years. I will be 85 then and might spend $200k to buy a new gasser or hybrid if I am still alive. No point leaving anything to my woke kids.

Got a whole house generator for when all the 'useful idiot' Greenies crash the power gird. And it will crash.

Just a few simple questions. We use 335 million gallons of gas per day. If we cut that in half, to say 165 million gallons a day, how many nuclear reactors will we need to build? And how quickly? I worked at the Bruce Plant in Ontario and it took years to bring on stream. Anyone know how many power plants are in the planning and approval process now? Will the current distribution system handle the load? Does anyone really think Big Brother is not going to tax something when they lose revenue from gas taxes? I hear Ford is not going to service their EV's at ICE dealerships....interesting...hope they work better than a washing machine.

I was with many of you, against EV's. Cannot replace a traditional internal combustion engine! What would happen if.... ??

That was until a friend of mine, one whom I simply believed was like me in this regard, bought a Tesla model 3 for his commuter.
"You gotta drive it!" he tells me. So I did. So many things happened in that short period of time:

First, I finally understand what people say when they talk about the power that an electric car brings. It SNAPPED me into my seat and I giggled like my wife tickled me with a feather.
Second, with its low center of gravity, the thing is on rails! I went around a traffic circle at 60 (no one else was in the circle) and it was awesome!
I asked about things like tires: "I go though tires more quickly than others, but that's because I cannot keep my foot out of it and it does weigh more" was his response. "But it makes up for it at the pump." he added.

Well, this is all fine and well, but where I live, what I do, I need a TRUCK! A truck that can haul things, pull trailers, go off road a bit (nothing serious, but I do live a long ways down a dirt road, and I hunt). "Have you heard of Cybertruck?" he asks. "Nope! What is it?"

I did my research, and although Cybertruck isn't out yet, I went ahead and put my deposit of $100 and signed up for it. I thought it was ugly at first, I though it was gimmicky and ugly... but the more I read, the more I understood. I opened my eyes and my brain, and saw that this truck, this Cybertruck, is exactly what I'm after! Then Ford came out with their line of EVs and seems like everyone else is too. But I still like the Cybertruck.

Now, it's expensive. $74k is what it was when I signed up. And at the time I was doing the research, I was looking at a comparable (new) Ford F-250 SuperDuty at ~$70k. So not much more. And with our very inexpensive power we enjoy, this is a no brainer.

I'm still signed up for my Cybertruck, and I wait for the notification that I can finish the ordering process for it.

(OH! And they offered over bluebook for my trade, so there is that too.)
