Bob -

No mistakes, just us trying to help each other. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

My apologies if I was a little unclear about what the intent of the original post was. Doing my best to just try to help, don't want to offend anybody or get out of line in any way. Sometimes I get a little "fast and loose" when I have a lot to say, and sometimes skimp on the disclaimers, "IMHO's", "your mileage may vary's", and other ways of "qualifying" of my remarks. This electronic medium can be a little tricky at times as I think we can all agree on. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I do love exploring things and finding out what's what as best I can, while doing my best to be a good person in the process. Hope it's working. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I really wish I could give you the prices on a quick tach WR Long grapple and their electric solenoid with rocker switch on the FEL control handle to control it, but my dealer price the 72' WR Long 4n1 bucket and controls with the FEL as a package deal.
I bought an aftermarket root rake/grapple and use the controls for the 4n1 to operate it.
It is a wonderful combination as far as I'm concerned.
If you can afford it I don't see where you will go wrong with WR Long products and my only regret is that I couldn't afford the WR Long grapple along with the 4n1 bucket.

That's a beautiful setup you've got on your JD and I am sure it gets allot of work done in a short period of time.

I've got an L39 TLB with an ANBO grapple on it and it simply rocks. The grapple weighs in @ 850 pounds but the TL1000 FEL handles it like a breeze.

Hydraulic Grapples are a godsend. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Dargo - can you send/post a photo of your receiver tube on your bucket? Thanks.

John,

No apology necessary. Things are fast and loose inside my head, so I thought I had misread the original post.

Awesome "true grapple" you've got there. It looks 2x or 3x better than what I've used. I feel like growing some brush and vines just so I can get one like that.

Merry Christmas to all,,,

Dargo:
There a plenty of posts about grapples. I think I have read them all, and started one of my own in the New Holland section. I cannot remember any post that was not positive about grapples. The bigger and harder question is, which one, and how to hook it up.

The nice grapples have a price to pay for compact tractors, weight. I think I have looked at them all. Seems to get one that will hold up the weight is going to be about 800lbs.

Another tough question is the design. There are some that have teeth that stick out, and others that have short teeth and work more like a clam shell. The long teeth or tines would seem to allow the implement to move under the pile and collect the material. However, the trade off is that it will not work in a clam shell type operation. I have been laboring over this issue for months now trying to invision the various ways I will be using it, and how often I well need to switch it out with the bucket. One should consider the add on one which eliminates the necessity of switching buckets. But, then again, from reading the posts, it looks like some of the utility is lost.

It is another one of the situations where there is not a good answer.

( Maybe all grapples should come with discounts on fitness club memberships, or at the very least one of the "ab stimulators" that you could plug in while you're working on the resultant 12-pack. How's this for a slogan - "Develop a six-pack while you're enjoying a twelve-pack". )

Darn, I thought I was getting enough of a workout just doing the old "12 ounce curl". Maybe if I move up to the 16 or 20 oz bottles...

Will do tomorrow. I just welded two more on for neighbors this evening. With a new Rural King about a mile from me, suddenly all my neighbors with tractors are going by there, spending $10 on the receiver tube, and dropping by for me to do my welding thing. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Here is what I have on my bucket. Nothing fancy, but it turns out to be very useful.

As far as the grapple goes, I'm as confused as ever about what to do. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
