I have heard reference to RICE tires on the gray market tractors and I assume that this means they were designed for running a tiller in the rice paddies in Japan. How are they different than our normal ag tires in the U.S.?

On most of the pictures of imported tractors on the net that I have seen, the tires look like normal ag tires to my novice eye. Have the tires been changed or are the rice tires very similar to our ag tires?

The rice tires are similer but they have much deeper cleats, almost like paddles.

Rice tires are sold and used in the US rice fields also, but you don't see them as commonly in most parts of the country. They sure will leave dents in your lawn, and are not as stable with a loader as other types of tires. Awhile ago some of the guys were wondering if the rice tire paddles could be shaved off to make them more usable. Did anyone ever try this?

I believe that some tire shops have a machine that grinds down out of round tires. Like tires with a flat spot from an emergency stop. Maybe you could have rice tires trimmed down.

I talked with a local guy here, who used a sawsall on the rear tires!!

Yes, a sawsall
He said it worked for him.
It took him about an hour per tire, and he dipped the blade in oil to cool it off.
Be sure to mark the tires first with a silver pencil.
good luck.

I had a guy tell me they use a chain saw at a right angle to the bars to cut down pulling tractor tires. It sounds tricky to me though.

I thought about making a jig/guide to put between the paddles and using a hot knife to cut them off but haven't tried it. Mike

While on the subject, I am going to try to attach a picture of my F22D I recently put industrials on.
