Getting a bolt or screw started in a hard to reach area. If you are like me, you have a lot of different size hose around the shop. Vacum line, windshield washer line, heater hose, etc. If you have ever tried to get a bolt or a screw in a hard to reach area, sometimes you can jam the bolt in a length of hose, and that will give you the reach you need to get it started. The shorter the length of hose, the better it works.

I've also jammed some duct tape in the bottom of a socket to stick the bolt in the socket so it won't fall out.

Magnetizing screwdrivers and nut drivers helps with smaller screws and nuts.

A shot of lubricant on a bolt going into a tractor makes it easier to get out later.

An old piece of light-colored canvas spread under the tractor/car before starting repairs makes finding dropped parts easier, and lets you know if there's a drip.

Compressed air is great for clearing radiators and grills, naturally, but is also good at clearing parts of the engine or trans where you have to work. Keeps the site clean and dust out of the innards.
