Howdy,

I always end up on TBN while researching farming/ranching topics so I thought I might as well become an official member.

We just recently purchased 20 acres in Wharton County and have been working on clearing the property so we can figure out what we just bought. The property is grass land, but the prior owner was a nurseryman and planted loads of trees all around the property. Some of the trees are in fine shape, some look to be on their last legs, others are planted too close together and some unfortunate specimens are growing on the fence line.

We have lots of projects pending getting the place cleared so we can do a little site planning. Coming up soon will be new fencing, a new well house, a pole barn (and other outbuildings), some roadwork and lots of mowing and sowing of native grass species. So while this may be my first post, I have a feeling it won't be my last.

:welcome: Gordon. How far are you from the Colorado River? Of course, this is not THE Colorado River that most are familiar with, but I know the Texas Colorado runs through Wharton. It would seem that that area can grow about anything you want to grow. The only two problems are hot muggy summers and being so close to the Gulf puts you in hurricane danger.

Welcome aboard Gordon. Quite familiar with wharton county. Used to live in Angleton and drove through all the time. Got my bumper from tough country in El Campo. Wife has family in Hungerford, she loves the shops in Egypt and Glen Flora which was just one of the reasons I changed my route to Needville. Used to travel weekends from Angleton to Bastrop but now live in Bastrop. luvin retirement. This is one of the best sites you'll find for country / tractor info.
