Time to convert from small engine to battery tools?

For example: for my uses/needs a pure EV for transportation won't make sense (by multiple metrics to include economics) until it can go 1000+ miles in a 16 hour period (in any weather/temp) hauling a 1000lb-2000lb load. Odds are that's probably going to require a whole lot of advances in technology ...or a hybrid. However, having said that some of the compact electric tractors, and electric equipment (for example: stand-on skidsteers, mini-excavators) catch my interest ....especially when they can also fit through a standard doorway.

Different needs/constraints require different solutions/tools -- and even when one is found it's usually worth checking to see if anything better has come along..... (of course for some things I'm not sure hand tools will ever be replaced ... like trimming around the gas filled lines running from my propane tank).

I agree about different horses for different courses.
However I think you can already nearly do that with a Tesla model X today and certainly can with a Tesla truck in the future.

I hate leaf blowers. I hate the noise. I hate the concept of lazy.

But I've been assimilated into the collective for reasons I won't go into to far.. I've been moving leaves to areas to be mulched into the ground with a tiller, but I got tired (and dizzy) of riding around in circles on the mowers trying to get them in the right spot against the wind, plus that was burning a lot of gas/diesel.

Found a refurbed Ryobi 100MPH 280CFM with a charger and 4AH battery that I can use in my other tools for $80.00 where the charger and battery alone usually sell for near that.

I might give it a 5. Will be OK for sidewalks and small areas, but not going to cut it for moving large piles of leaves like I was hoping. No competition for the backpack models I've seen.

I have both models of the Ryobi blower. The cheaper, smaller volume blower has a smaller nozzle which allows it to produce more velocity than the larger one. To improve the prefomance of your blower, buy this: Flare Nozzle [791-181632] for Lawn Equipments | eReplacement Parts

For anybody that hasn't seen the other thread, while working on a shed about six weeks ago, I had an issue that put me more or less out of commission. Little or nothing has been done out there and everything laid just about exactly where it fell. I've done a few minor things outside and in the garage, but not much with power tools. I needed a cordless drill a few days ago and found one of two, so I quit looking for the other. Today, I needed the other one, the Ryobi lime green 1/4 Impact driver. Couldn't find it anywhere. Having run out of places to look, I began to wonder. Climbed back up one of the two ladders I had been using and there was the impact driver .... on the metal roof exposed to the weather, complete with battery in it.. We've had snow, frost, ice, heavy rains and bright Sun during this time and it was there through it all. Figured it was toast for sure. Squeezed the trigger and it came to life and ran normally. Used it for over an hour without it missing a lick.

It's amazing what they will put up with.
We had a 18v impact at work that got found on the roof in late spring/early summer one year and the last time someone was on the roof with an impact was when a contractor was up there in late summer the year before.
It still works and gets used fairly frequently.

The last couple of weeks I've had my Stihl BGA 85 Battery Blower at work... this is the time of year when the leaves drop and the city sweepers run past several times a day...

Arrive at work 4:30 am well before the groundskeeper and clear the ankle deep leaves around the main entrance and the walkway.

Tried a gas blower years ago but the noise makes it a no go... so have been using a large rake the last 24 years.

The Battery Stihl works like a charm... it is so quiet with plenty of power at just above "Idle" speed.

Many stop to ask about it... I could sell dozens every week if it was not for the price...

Rather than a lengthy conversation I answer by saying this is still Stihl's best blower but one battery costs $200 which almost always ends the conversation dead in its tracks.

A few ask for more info and I say there is a family of tools and if you already have the battery and charger it can be used for chainsaws, trimmers, etc...

I was just using it around the house this morning which is Sunday... doubt I would have been able with a gas blower due to noise.

Funny because the Blower was an afterthought raised by the dealer
