The Fanimation seem like a high-mid price point. The quality was one thing I noticed when I bought our new house. The wife was wanting to change all of the inside fans out, when we bought the place, because they're somewhat modern with just 3 blades, like a plane propeller. But they're quiet and throw a fair amount of breeze. I'm glad we didn't get rid of them, because they cost about $500-600/ea. The outside Fanimation fans all have 9-blades ea., but I haven't used them much.

The Hunter and Harbor Breeze fans you find at Home Depot and Lowes are all junk. We've all had them at one time or another. Eventually the blades warp, they start to wobble and make noise. We actually use ceiling fans quite a bit, year-round at our place.

What are the Hunter and Harbor Breeze blades made from?

The $350 96" 8 blade from amazon I bought lists reinforced aluminum blades, they have held their profile. I can't imagine any type of wood or plastic blade would be a good idea once getting up in diameter.

96" blades are a whole different animal. All the large fans I've seen, with the exception of the rustic windmill style, have all used air foil blades, instead of paddle style blades and I think they've all been aluminum and fiberglass.

The in-door Hunter and Harbor Breeze fans I think just use a paddle style manufactured wood blade with a wood-grain print coating. The outdoor fans are usually plastic blades.

The 3-blade indoor Fanimation fans I have are also an airfoil style, but more like a plane propellor. I haven't been up close to one to see what it's made of, because I have 12-14' ceilings. It sort of looks like it might be carved wood though.

If you're looking for a good ceiling fan, check out Fanimation. My new house has 7 of them, 4 indoor and 3 outdoor. They seem like a very well made fan. Quiet, good airflow, no wobble.
Ill check them out. Thanks for the recomendation

You guys must be serious fan users. I have 2 cheap hunter fans in our house and they've been problem free for 23 years. They are not large by any means. Maybe 5' in diameter.

I have two Hunters intalled in our vaulted ceiling great room, which have not turned off since I moved into this house 15 years ago. If the prior owners were like me, they've probably been running continuously since 1995. Zero issues.

I have two others on our wrap-around porch, which have been out in the weather since the 1980's. They're not the prettiest things to look at, after 40 years outdoors, but they still run just fine, on those rare occasions we want to sit on the porch in the heat.

Two on the porch, 20 years and counting.

They are however, plastic something blades.

Your boss isn't exaggerating, they move a massive amount of air, but the residential models (like the Haiku) are specifically engineered to do it without the "chopping" sound or the wobbling you get from standard store-bought fans.
