Clearing, removing, cleaning and staging old and new lumber to a condensed location for easy removal.
Sorry bout the JD wagon....it works nice w/ the BH. I attach it to the step, with the boom swung over. The thumb works very well for grabbing logs. I have become quite competent sitting forward and reaching around to the BH controls to grab a log. You can back parallel and grab in the carry position or park perpendicular and swing it around either way.

I'll bet you have a smile :D from ear to ear the whole while your doing that.
Nice setup

Very nice set up for moving and cutting wood. One could just cut up the wood up while it's still in the thumb! No bending over or hitting the dirt with the chainsaw. Also a very nice stand of woods in the pictures.

Yes, I've tried that and it works well. As you saw up to the bucket you can just move to the other side or set it down and regrab further down the log. I was very pleased with how much I can do with it. I can't wait to get the grapple for the front!

I do the same thing here!! I had woods cleared for our pasture. I have broken down two piles alraedy and only have one left. I drag each log off, burn the brush, and save anything worth keeping to burn in the fire place. When I get a few logs, I thumb them onto a trailer and move them to another area to cut, split and stack.

having that thumb makes the backhoe. and having used it I couldn't live without it.

Man, now I'm *really* envious!

I've been doing a lot of log moving of late, and had planned to get a back hoe sometime in Feb. when the annual bonus came out. Now they are talking about canceling the bonus (better than people losing jobs, I guess), and then last week my septic tank finally caved in. The $4k to replace that would almost get me a backhoe...

I try to stick to green, that's my favorite. I have respect for all other brands though, and ya'll have some really nice tractors!

Buy the backhoe, and you can replace your own septic tank (for $750-$1500 depending on size). That alone would pay for about half of the 'hoe.

That would only work if I put in a plastic tank or metal tank. There are times I drive over this area, so I'm trying to avoid a plastic tank. A cement tank weighs in at 12,000 lbs, which is just *barely* ;) over the capabilities of my tractor.

A plastic tank I'd end up having to replace, just as I'd have to replace a metal tank. I want to do this and be done with it.

My father-in-law did say he'd help out if I wanted to put in my own tank, but you know what? All in all, I *really* don't want to be doing anything with raw sewage.

I can get a cement tank for about $2000. Permits are a few hundred. Pumping is another $300. Then I'd have to hire a track hoe to put the tank itself in, as the truck can't drive to it -- ground is too slippery right now. No clue how much that costs, but I'm betting it isn't cheap.

I found a guy who's doing everything for $3500, and I don't have to deal with sewage. That's money well spent in my opinion...

The Stihl's look OK and match well but something needs to be done to that trailer quickly!!!

I still mow with a JD lawn tractor, so It's somewhat justified. If I had room, I buy a bigger wagon that was more suited to the tasks I'm doing, but for now this will work....it just looks a bit funny:eek:

Now I want a hoe after looking at those pictures.

I don't have any woods to clear like you... but I want a hoe anyway. It just looks like it belongs on the tractor :)

I had the BH off the tractor a few days ago and it sure looked naked! I will say this, the addition of the BH does have one small disadvantage IMO, it does make the steering light. My land is everything but flat and sometimes it makes manuvering more difficult, especially in tight quarters, like woods. Then add a log in the grip of the BH and you can pop some serious wheelies if your not careful. Some say the tractor feels more balanced with the BH on, but for me it feels *slightly* more unbalanced, but like I said, I have almost no flat terrain where I use it most. Don't get me wrong, I love the BH and would get it again and would recommend the setup I have.

You need a little pile of dirt so you can put a bit in the bucket when working in the woods with the backhoe. I found that my old BX felt a lot more stable in the woods without the backhoe on too. It's possible that front weights would work with the loader mounted, but I wouldn't swear to that.
