Say, that package contains a replacement mirror for a 2009 Impala. If this guy doesn't have a 2009 Impala that needs a mirror, or know anyone else who does, does he throw it out along the road? Nobody ever seems to talk about what must be, an elaborate fencing network to liquidate the gazillion items that thieves don't need personally.

You know that 'Bay place? Where do you think at least some sellers get their stuff?

I've read a few news stories where somebody loses something in a theft, shops there, finds it, buys it, then sends the cops to the seller's address.

While porch theft is not a major issue here, theft of catalytic converters is considerable.
So much so that our city has issued alerts.
With the advent of battery powered hacksaws and grinders it is a mere 2-3 min event.
Usually a tag team, one cuts the other grabs and runs.
Recently we had a few captured on security cameras but with hoods and masks there is no way of identifying the perps.

I'm surprised the gentleman taking the parcel didn't claim that he thought it was rightfully his and had simply been misdelivered.

I will never forget the COPS show with the setup bait vehicle to be stolen. Car gets shutdown and doors locked. Video and Audio within. Suspects already practicing saying "I didn't do it" repeatedly before the cops ever got to the car.

Porch pirates are banking on electronics or gift cards. It's a game of chance and it only cause more blit on the environment in the litter being thrown along or roadways! Sad thing is, some of the delivery drivers are in on it! Doorbell cameras have helped with the issues. Just make sure you're home for package or have a trustworthy neighbor grab for you after Doorbell notification that it was delivered. Or I guess we'll all have to install delivery chutes in our houses! JM2C
