Third function disconnects ?

   / Third function disconnects ? #11
I got Faster multi port couplings for both my loader and the third function implements. I can literally disconnect my loader hydraulics, disconnect the loader, back away and reattach it in less than 3 minutes, and that is with 6 hydraulic lines to the loader. They are in an 8 port coupler. There is a two port out front on the loader for implements.
I saw them as an option from Kubota and ordered them with my tractor. The dealer had never seen them before, but have sold many subsequently.

I almost got that multi port option on my new Kubota L6060. It would indeed be a quick & convenient way to connect the hydraulics. I changed my mind though when I found out what it was going to cost to convert 2 tractors and 4 implements!

Mine is an L6060 as well. Considering the price of the tractor, I figured the $900 cost of the quick connect would be lost in the noise. It cost under $200 for the half that goes on the implement, and I’ve “only” got 3 SSQA implants that have hydraulics.
Every time I mount an implement or pop the loader on or off I’m reminded that it was money well spent.

By using the Pioneer 4200 couplers with the appropriate mount that grabs the sleeve the couplers are a push / pull setup. Push them to install, and pull them to release. I always recomend to customers to spend the very little more to get these. Also if mounted inline with the machine, should the hose catch something, or the implement become unattached, they will automatically disconnect, rather than wreck something. With the 4200 you do not need a special tool to hold the sleeve while attaching the coupler, just push the hose in. However that does not mean they will always attach when you have pressure due to thermal expansion. Sometimes you still have to wack the male end with a hammer, or I hit them against the drawbar on the tractor to relieve pressure. I have seen tools to relieve pressure, that do it cleaner than hitting the hose end.

I'm going with the pioneers just can't break loose the adapter that goes from 1/2 to 3/8s, tried with the vice and hammer with a 7/8 wrench but was unsuccessful I could have broken the table that the vice was mounted on so I think I'll try and find a set of 3/8s so I don't have to buy new adaptors

A hydraulic 3/8-1/2" adapter is under $2.

3/8 quick connects will flow enough but if you ever plan to use something else, 1/2" is the most common. The 3/8 QCs cost a little more and are a bit harder to find. I can get 1/2" 4200s at the local TSC.

Use LocTite 545 on the threads.

I had this problem with the Summit third function quick disconnects and the 1/2” quick disconnects I asked Everything Attachments grapple to supply. The Summit ones are a pin type center and the EE ones were ball bearing. I took the model numbers from EE and went to farmers supply. Put that type on the Summit supply lines. Look in the center of the quick disconnects and you should see the difference. I’m not a pipe fitter so that the best I can explain.

You actually only have to buy the male quick connect if you got a male and female coupler from Summit. As you match those two up and the use the one you took off and match up that side. Better to stick with a standard for future though.

Is it possible the pressure is in the grapple, not the machine? That is the common problem I had.
I tried to swap to the "connect under pressure", but those aren't interchangeable with normal flat face, and I couldn't find "CUP" style that would mount on my Dingo bulkhead...had to swap back, but Summit was a real help. Saw an idea where you take a set of couplers, attach them on each end of a short pipe nipple. The air in the nipple relives the hydraulic pressure while the attachment is sitting in the sun.

I put a shut off valve on one of the grapple hoses, was more to leave the grapple ‘open’ when not in use (bad practice I know) and not have the weight of the grapple putting pressure on the oil in the line to cause connection problems.. but it helps for the heat buildup pressure issues too. One on each line (right at the coupler) would be ideal. Just another thought.
