L3130 hst
I currently own a 3130 with 513 loader . I'm thinking about getting a 3430 with 723 loader . My current machine has around 90 hrs.and is a year and a bit old . It's been maintained well , but has it's battle scars . What would be the best way for me to upgrade ?
Dealer trade ,or sell the machine I have and then purchase a new one ? Thanks , John

John,
I vote you give the 3130 to your buddy Vince and start from scratch !! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you feel you want to upgrade from a 3130, I would go straight to the 3830 w/723 loader.. My opinion.

I went through some of what you are going through. Mine was not so much of an upgrade as a change to a model that better suited my needs. I sold a Kubota L48, in great condition, about 200 hours. Used tire shine type stuff on all the rubber, had the thing immaculate, then needed it, got it dirty a few more times, cleaned it a few more times, the second guy that came by wanted it bad. He got it for $2000 less then I paid but he did not have to pay state sales tax, something he was well aware of and very happy about. If you pay sales tax on new tractors and don't on used ones, you will have a very desireable tractor. I got much more selling it myself then the dealer would give. I still had warranty left as well and that made the new buyer more willing to take the risk of going used as it is transferable. Best wishes with your decision.

Vince a 3830 would be nice ! But I'm most likely to be bruised to bad by the wife to even think about it .
Actually if I'd have thought it through, the 3130 with a 723 would have done me well . It's just that I've found a few things that seem to challenge the 513 .,not the tractor .
No body is going to buy a loader on it's own , so the machine has to go with it . As an extention of that thought .... " if I like the 3130 , I'll Love the 3430 /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif "
As To giving My 3130 to You. You bet !! Just give Me that old worn out DK of Yours !(and BH ) Heck I'll trade You straight up , even though I'll have to learn to shift gears /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif John

John,
Will your dealer trade loaders ?
Maybe he will give you a price for your 513 loader towards a 723.
If you can get an idea of $ for loader upgrade VS $ upgrading the entire unit it may help decide which way is the best to go.

John,

I see it the same way as Vince, except you should give the 3130 to your friend Bill! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Whoops...I see that did not work for Vince either... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Vince hit the nail on the head, keep the tractor, trade the loader in on the larger one. That will make it possible for you to also put a BH90 backhoe on the tractor at the same time, which will give the dealer more incentive to get the deal done!

There...that was easy... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

VINCE; if JOHN was able to make a deal on upgrading the loader, would it give that much more capabilities with the same tractor? i really don't know. Then it is just possible that our friend NIXON has a case of TRACTORITIS /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif THE OVERWHELMING NEED TO BUY A NEW TRACTOR.

It does give you a loader with higher lift height and the all important bucket angles. Because of the 4 bar linkage, you get better rollback angles. That really helps when carry large loads low or when loading the bucket with a shovel which is typical when loading junk in it.

The 723 is a stronger loader with a heavier mounting frame, so it will help him out with power some. (around 500# more lift capacity, give or take)
I know John also would like a BH90 backhoe and upgrading loaders will give him that option to go with the BH 90 hoe.

Frank,
I'm afraid most of us here have tractoritis syndrome /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Rat,
What is the lift capacity of the 723 loader.
I can't remember for sure, but I was thinking around 1800 # vs the 513 being in the 1300 # area.
I could be wrong.

Vince ,if it was practical to trade the loader alone ,I'd do so . But it doesn't seem to be that way . Most folks want a new tractor and a New loader with that tractor . John

Lift capacity at 500mm forward of pivot for the LA 513 is 1389lbs and the LA 723 is 1852lbs. Maximum bucket lift height is 96.5" vs 102.4" respectively. Dump/rollback are 40/30 degrees vs 45/40 degrees.

Frank , You're right about the "tractoritis " up to a point ! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
But, I'm running into a few things that will require a bit more loader than I thought originally . I could most likely deal with them with my loader , but it would be coming close to abusing it .
I'd rather not do that . But here's where the "tractoritis" part comes in /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif If I'm going to upgrade the loader ..... I might as well spend the money to get a few more ponies in case I see a BH in my future /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif But, basically it comes down to upgrading the loader .
And,as I understand it there isn't much of a market for loaders that aren't on a tractor . John

You were right there. The lift capacity would be less of a concern as the dump/rollback angles as well as the lift height. The lift height was my biggest concern on the LA 723 and I thought hard about the LA 853 on the next size tractor up. It is needed for loading dumpsters.

Nixon,

Jump up to the L3830 if you can afford it. You seem to be in search of more power and I just don't think it's worth getting rid of your current machine unless you take a sizable step. The L3830 is a very nice machine with the LA723. You'll like it /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I got a quote for a new L3430 HST with 723 QA loader. $22000.00 plus tax. Loader was a $4495 option.
If you do not need a new tractor. I would do as others suggested and see what dealer will do on a trade-in for loader only.

Speaking as someone who doesn't have a loader, I would take a used loader in good condition, if the price was right. Unfortunately, for the dealer to be able to sell it at the right price, I doubt the dealer would give you very much for it.

/ Thinking of upgrading . #20
JOHN getting back to your original question (which is the best way to go) I WOULD try to sell it outright and get your new one. I think you might make out better $$$ wise, but then agin some dealers are looking for good used machines. why don't you talk to the dealer and get an idea of what kind of deal he will give you.
