It is a capstan winch. I bought a 300' rope for myself so i can pull logs out from 300' away or double it up and pull twice the load from 150'. The yellow plastic cone in the background is to go over the front of the log so it skids easier. I am just not real comfortable having a winch attached to my loader - stresses on the arms and also worried i met get lazy and sit in the operator's seat while using it. Having the wire whip back if it broke would not be pretty.

I think I've seen capstan winches similar to this in arbor est catalogs that are powered with a chain saw.

Simpson makes a winch to attach to a chainsaw, and so does Lewis.
