Bob,

If my wife signed me up for three shifts at a deep fryer in a tent in that heat, I'd make sure she hadn't taken out some additional life insurance on me.

If my wife signed me up for something like that, without asking me first, she'd be the one behind the fryer because I'd be AWOL! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Now in all fairness to the lovely Mrs_Bob, not only did she ask if I would help, but people from the church's festival committee asked. And I said I would work a few hours (but never figured I'd been volunteered for 6 hours in 100 degree heat!!!)

As for the life insurance question posted earlier . . . hmmm, I'll have to check.

Bob,
Why is it that only the wives can volunteer the men for things ? Does not seem to qwork too well the other way around /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

She doesn't need any extra life insurance on you.... she can sell off all your toys and have enough to live out the rest of her natural life without ever thinking back to the old days with Thrifty Bob...... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

( As for having some new major toy arrive while she is gone, it would have to be an "impulse" purchase. Normally when she goes away I start my shopping long before her departure so that the needed piece of equipment can be delivered while I have plenty of free time to use it (while she is still out of town). )

Bob,

In this case, not being able to plan accordingly would obviously be considered an emergency, so anything that some dealer has laying around that can be delivered tomorrow should meet your requirements. Barring that, go out and buy a bunch more Hawaiian shirts. It would cleary be a compromise, but should suffice in this case.

Speaking of Hawaiian shirts, I've been wearing a few since the retirement became effective. I'm sure no where near your level of expertise. But I'm working on it. We're going to a play tomorrow evening, and I have a nice black one that I'm going to break out. It'll be interesting to see the wife's reaction! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Hope the recovery goes well for your sister-in-law. And you should remind your wife to stay indoors while she's down there. IT may be toasty up here, but it appears to downright brutal in the southwest. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I dunno, but you sure are correct!!!

Junk . . . in order for her to live a happy and prosperous life without me she'd need to find the keys to all my toys! As long as those are kept well hidden she will have a hard time selling them /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Garry . . . you have to admit, a nice Hawaiian shirt sure makes you a snappy dresser! As for buying a toy at one of the local dealership, I like the way you think, this is an emergency so anything they have handy should qualify!

Mike . . . Those are exactly the type I'm getting bids on.

Sams sells a portable AC now, sorta looks like a dehumidifier

But it still requires an exhaust for the hot air. They come with an exhaust hose that fits in a window, but not a casement window.
