I put my little BX to the test:

Two cherry trees and one maple tree. Less than 2 hours work on each. Yeah its slow; but she gets'er done. The teeth on the bucket rip those roots right through if you hook them right. Blossom was out there watching every move. If the tractor is running she is there.

Nice work. Little tractors can do a lot more than many people think!

Digging out trees is about the hardest thing you can do to a backhoe. I had a guy come give me a quote on digging out several large hickory trees. He said he would dig septic systems all day, but he didn't want to dig up trees. Try digging up hickory trees for a real challenge. It will make those maples look like pulling up a sapling.

Check out that black dirt... Wow!..That would be worth a fortune around here...

You must be doing good, Blossom doesn't look worried. I have Baxster that supervises my tractor work. So why are you removing the trees?

Like k0ua, first thing I noticed was that beautiful fluffy black dirt! Love to have a few loads of that over my KY clay. Blossom's a good looking dog.

Great job yanking those out by the roots! That really is beautiful top soil. I don't see any rocks though. Rocks build character. I've got plenty, all sizes, should send you some samples. I like the tooth bar on the bucket. did it come with those rings in the middle or did you add those? I have a BX piranha bar, but no rings. Looks like they are made to accept some tool?

Blossom is a great dog. She learns fast. Her first day around the tractor I nipped her with the BH slightly and now she does not get near it when it is running. Turn it off and she wants in the seat.

This area goes back to when it was heavily forested (still is) so the black loam is prevalent and heavy in decomposed organics. It has never been plowed under as that would have diluted it with sand and rock. There are areas like along the creek (right behind that maple) that are 2-3' deep.

We make 2-3 YDS of compost every year that we mix with other top soil and use for filling and top dressing over the Acre around the house. Oh yeah, we have 20 AC of newly growing forest.

The 2 cherry trees had stopped producing, had some rot started, and they were just in the wrong place so time to go. The maple was on the creek bank where the water was undercutting the roots, there are 4 other larger maples, 3 big firs and a large sequoia that it was competing with also. Time for it to go also.

When we bought this place 6 years ago the landscaping was a veritable jungle, trees never trimmed, rhodies a tall as the house, blackberry thickets all over. We are finally getting it to look like something. We like openness.

I made an agressive tooth bar for the FEL and the BX is now my excavator with a 4' bucket. Once I raggled the roots off the FEL just lifted them right out.

I have taken down 12" Alder weeds a few times and numerous smaller ones. Push the little ones over and chew up with the bush hog. All organics around here go back into the soil either as chips or ash.

Bought the BX new in 2011 and now have 1200 hours on it.

All the rocks are below the black humus. We have plenty so keep yours. Below in this area is glacial till. I swear the rocks breed faster than mice. The "rings" are where I attach my hitch receiver attachment using a long 5/8 hitch pin. I also spaced the teeth so I could attach my clamp on forks w/o removing the tooth bar. One space is perfect for 40 X 48 pallets.

Hey Ron,
Can I get some pics of that job you did on the bucket, no point me reinventing the wheel if I want to do something similar down the track, and from the little bit I can see, it sure looks like a nice job!

Here you are: DSCN1242.jpgDSCN1243.jpgDSCN1244.jpgDSCN1245.jpg

Sorry it took so long. Note I spaced the teeth so I can install my bucket forks between. I have four forks I use for brush handling

Hey Ron, you are out stumping me! Great work. I see you have a 12in on your BH so maybe you won't miss your 8in if I borrow it for a bit?

Come and get it. I probably will not need it till next spring. Dig those ditches so they are self draining. I did some trenches last winter and the water just percolated away.

Thanks for that, now you have me thinking about some forks!
So did you make the tooth bar complete, is that small crack on the end a crack in the root between 2 pieces of flat bar?
