HD Fowler in Gorst. Just south of Bremerton. They are great to deal with. I just checked and was surprised to see they have one in Olympia... as such I would recommend.

I do think roots grow towards the sound of moving water. The root I found in my example in a post above was 5' deep with no other roots in the area. It grew on an angle down to that PCV pipe, and butted right into it. That caused it to create an odd growth there, bending and circling, growing to a thickness of a couple inches and eventually collapsing the pipe over the years.

That roots can sense running water was news to me a few years ago but science states there are things dumber than a root.

A study led by The University of Western Australia has found plants have far more complex and developed senses than we thought with the ability to detect and respond to sounds to find water, and ultimately survive.

In the study "Tuned in: plant roots use sound to locate water" published in Oecologia, UWA researchers found that plants can sense sound vibrations from running water moving through pipes or in the soil, to help their roots move towards the source of water. The study also revealed that plants do not like certain noises and will move away from particular sounds.

You can hear my old Cottonwood tree shushing surrounding plants as it listens.

For all you guys with root problems hasn't anybody explain adding copper sulfate to your distribution box twice a year eliminates root problems and will not kill your trees.

You don't even have to dig. Just use Boraxo/20 Mule Team Borax in your laundry. The borax will keep roots out of the drain field. If you don't want to use it in the washing machine, just flush a cup down the toilet once a week. If you have trees over your drain field that you want to save, don't use borax. Over time, it will kill the trees.

I am not sure I would cash in your savings and invest in root head phones based on one study done in Australlia.
