The joys of septic tanks

My house has some kind of hatch at the surface. My county require pumped or inspect every 3 years. So I dug grass up. I just left it exposed. I could not care less if it is exposed in my yard. Live out in the country. But to be honest, I don't care enought to cover and dig up every 3 years, even if I was in city. Not like it is that deep, I just don't care about cosmetics.

Really pretty view!
Thanks! To be honest, pictures don't do it justice. When we bought this place in 2008, it was the view not the house. We look to the west and north over the Hood Canal at the Olympic Mountains. Share 150ft of saltwater oyster filled beach and dock with a couple neighbors. Yet we are only an hour from Seattle.

I hear you. I would do the same if it wasn't in a view spot. I am pretty happy with these clean outs after living in two homes over the last 33 years both with septic tanks that I had to dig and find the plugs for a pump out about every 5 years. Always seemed I was a little off in digging so the hole and mess was bigger than it should have been. I am finding that I dislike shovels more and more as I get older and grumpier.

The contractor installed the risers on my septic tank, pump tank and valve pit using some type of uber hard drying foam material. Sealed the 24" diameter risers to the tanks and to the gravel base in the case of the valve pit. In the case of the valve pit - since the pit has a gravel base it really didn't seal anything. It does provide a large "flange" all around the riser. Secured in the ground better.

How often is water running through through your home sewer?.
Excellent question and the answer is,not that often but in OP's case running water sound was also emitting from the hydrant next to sewer line. You've heard how sounds travel's to other faucets any time one is turned on? Collectivly, between water running through sewer line and noise from hydrant when anything from shower to icemaker was on the root had plenty guidance. Once root reached that area it turned all it's attention to the drain line when it smelled it as someone mentioned earlier.

If it was noise they would be at my backdoor chasing my dogs, like little shop of horrors.
Stupid tree roots that chase dogs cause their tree to die from lack of moisture. Besides, rover generally deliver's his moisture contribution right to the base of tree.

Mine outside mybedroom window, I am not a yard ****. One of the many reasons I don't live in town. Though in town, mine would still be visible, grass would just be short enough to see it.

The first job assignment coming out of college and working at Boeing, I was a stress engineer. I got sent to England to work with a Lavatory Supplier to Boeing. When I came back my boss told me that I was now a head stress engineer. After a second or two of thinking about it, I realized I didn't get a promotion.
